You would have thought I would have figured this out years ago.
I have never seen anyone explain how to turn Auto-Fire on/off at will. Sometimes, you can't use your weapons while interacting with something in this game. I created a macro that allows me to start and stop firing at will but this requires the macro to spam weapons fire. I started working on a new build and was unhappy with my firing rate and wanted to stop spamming weapons fire. So I started experimenting with auto-fire. It finally hit me.
I hope this guide will finally show how to set it up correctly. I am using “STO Keybind.” I assume you already know the basic of this program. If you have already created your keybinds you can add this to them.
1. In STO Keybinds create two keys. I will use P=“AutoFire On” and Z=“AutoFire Off.” You can use any key you want. Make sure the keys you are using are not bound in-game. You can just “clear” those keys. Next, create two Actions for each key. The first key's Action uses the Activities selector and selects “Weapons Autofire On.”
2. Optional: For the second Action choose Tell. Character @ Handle: use your @name without using a character name. (This will send the tell to any character you are using.) and under the Message: enter “AutoFire On."
Do the same for the second key use “Weapons Autofire Off.”
Now you will know the status of Auto-Fire.
3. Save your keybind, create the bind file, then copy and paste it into your chat for each character. You do not need to map any keys in-game the bind file will take care of that.
4. You will need to do this for both space and ground and on each character. In the game, go to Options > Controls, scroll to the bottom, and set Auto Attack to Maintain Auto Attack, then click OK.
5. Right-click each weapon icon for a green outline in the HUD. For "Space" save this to your Loadouts so you won’t need to do this every time.
6. Do this for Ground too.
That it. Now you can turn on and off auto-fire at will. You must have a target selected before you turn on Auto-fire to start.

Wow, I thought this would be a gaming changer but I guess not. Did someone already figure this out and I wasn't in the know? Maintain Auto Attack wasn't in this game in the beginning.

From what I can tell I am the only one who has figured this out. Which actually makes sense because the Maintain Auto Attack was not part of the games original release. It came years later I'm just the first one to realize it could be combine it with the sto keybinds program so it can be turned on and off at will. Most just leave it on and others would just add the firing all to a Spambar which is what I was doing until I got tired of it and finally figured out how to use this new feature. For DPS chasing this is definitely going to be a game changer. It's just one less command that needs to spam.
