Some of you may have noticed that I have been actively creating new characters on SWTOR and getting them invited to the UFP’s guilds. The more observant players will also notice that there’s one of each class. Here's my big confession: I’ve played SWTOR very casually on and off since early access, but I have never actually completed any of the class stories! I’ve wondered what the timeline of all these stories would be; how do they all fit together? So begins my [not so] little project: playing the class stories concurrently and in chronological order. There are many overlaps and there are specific mentions, characters and events that happen that tie the different class stories together. I spent some time researching this online and am following a chronology created by TheramoreIsTheBomb on mmo-champion.com.
So far, I have played through all the starter planets and am currently playing through the Coruscant quests on my Jedi Knight. I’ve also used cartel coins (saved up from having an on and off subscription as well as a security key [since launch]) to unlock races to give me some unusual combinations (Mirialan Imperial Agent anyone?). Also, to give me a bit more variety, I’m generally playing one light side and one dark side character from each starter planet; the only exception to this is the Smuggler/Trooper where the Smuggler is all about the money and the Trooper is a by the book soldier.
I'm hoping that this will add a bit of interest and keep me playing all the stories through until their conclusions. I'm hoping that switching between characters and alignments will keep my interest high.

Playing the stories chronologically might be a funny thing, but believe me.. playing the planets Belsavis and Voss (as an example) x-times in a row is not! Therefore I'm not sure sure whether switching toons after finishing a planet and playing on it again and again and again is a wise idea. You might "burn out" rather quickly.
If I were you I'd play class after class. Remember that you will get bonuses for reaching the "Legendary" status as soon as possible, e.g. the various constant class buffs that will make you stronger. You will need those. After finishing the class stories the game REALLY begins, with its expansions (Hutt Cartel, Revan, Knights of the Fallen Empire, etc.) as well as its raids (if you are a subscriber).

Sounds like absolute hell.
Personally I think that switching class all the time will ruin the immersion and spoil the individual class stories. Some of the stories are great though, I thoroughly enjoyed playing the Sith Warrior as an unstoppable Juggernaut, and the Inquisitor story was also excellent (though I'd suggest Assassin to make sneaking through maps easier compared to the Sorc).

It's worse than hell...!

True.. I wouldn't do this. As I had said earlier I'd play class by class.
My favourite storylines are Imperial Agent as well as Smuggler... lots of funny moments.

The Jedi Knight is the most Star Wars-y of the main stories, though the Consular is the weakest Republic one and I'd say overall as well, it just never felt like it got any traction and was kind of dull.
Trooper gets the award for best companion with M1-4X. Some of the stuff he comes out with is hilarious and it's clear the VA was having an absolute blast and enjoying himself. Bonus points because Jennifer Hale voices the Female Trooper so you've got FemShep against the Empire.
I have never actually completed any of the Imperial storylines, got to Act 3 with the Imperial Agent but stopped at that point, but I'll give special mentions to the Female VA's for the Warrior and Inquisitor - the Inquisitor has the snark down to a fine art and everything the warrior says no matter how polite has this underlaying attitude of "F*** you!" in the line delivery, it just works so well for the character.

They all run pretty concurrently of one another but with a slight time variation, for example while not giving any spoilers, the Jedi Knight story is slightly ahead of the Sith Warrior's story in that something that you do as part of the Jedi Knight story, is referenced a little later in the Sith Warrior's story. So ideally you want to do the Jedi Knight first then the Warrior after.
Like Petrarch said, the Jedi Knight story is the standard Jedi SW story, The Trooper is good but somewhat generic soldier story, but a good one. The Imperial Agent is considered by some to be the best Class Story in the game, it's very much James Bondy cool spy stuff. The Inqusitor and Sage have pretty good stories too.
And like I said most of them run generally around the same time story wise, with one usually slightly ahead of the other but it's pretty obvious that the Jedi Knight story is the first one timeline wise, with all the others slightly behind then when the expansions start they all merge into one.
Personally I would stick with one class all the way through and at the very least get through the Jedi Knight story first from a narrative perspective. When you get to the Illum questline, from there and through the expansions the timeline between all classes merges into one so you've got nothing to worry about there.

I logged in to SWTOR for the first time in a couple of years on the back of this thread just to have a look at it using the Steam client and it proceeded to spit out 122 achievements based on the progress I've had over the years. I'm not sure if I'm going to actively play again, but it's nice to see the various weapons and armours they've added since last time.
