Just caught up with the latest on the new Battlestar Galactica reboot—haven't had much info since the initial announcement, especially with things going quiet during the writers' strike.

Haven't quite seen enough to determine if I'm excited or concerned about the new Battlestar Galactica. The recent announcement that Sam Esmail will be collaborating with Derek Simonds has me unaware of what to expect. I'm really hoping they won't tamper with the essence of the series as we've come to know it from the previous incarnation of BSG.
Reflecting on when the previous series was first announced, I recall feeling apprehensive about the changes introduced, including the cast shakeup and the gender swap of primary characters, particularly Starbuck. Yet, against my worries, the show turned out to be epic. It's still one of the only shows that ever had me yelling at the screen, especially during that intense moment in the finale of the first season when they shot Adama.
Having not watched much of what either Esmail or Simonds has produced, there's a sense of concern. I've heard good things about Mr. Robot, which Esmail was involved in, but it's a different genre. These shows may not have garnered the same following and status as a series like BSG.
The old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" keeps resonating in my mind. Ronald D. Moore's touch on the reboot was undeniably iconic, given his significant contributions to the genre, including Star Trek. Even his Outlander series, though not my personal preference, has earned long-term standing.
So, here's to hoping that the new showrunner and producer understand the legacy of Battlestar Galactica, whether in its original or rebooted form, and are committed to preserving its essence. Let's cross our fingers for a new chapter that doesn't jeopardize what makes the show truly special.

I honestly don't think anything can top the original and the RDM reboot series. I'm also hoping this new series goes back to the original's formula.

What goes around, comes around. I remember the original fans of Battlestar being HIGHLY skeptical of RDM because of his deep Trek background and not wanting BSG to become another Star Trek.
I think it'll be fine. I also think that judging creatives based on their previous works can be counterintuitive purely because the other works are different expressions of other ideas. Mike McMahan was skewered in fan circles for being heavily tied to the writing and production of Rick and Morty, and yet I think Lower Decks is an incredible and amazing addition to the Trek landscape.

Well I'm going to start by saying I've only seen the RDM reboot of Battlestar Galactica and at the moment I am curious but not yet optimistic. We've seen it done well before and if it brings something new to the table (other than improved graphics) then it could be good for BSG in the long run. RDM brought a darker, more drama focussed story with what felt to me like a more realistic tech implemtation.
But as is said in Battlestar Galactica this has all happened before and this will all happen again. I don't think there is any show where it is more thematically fitting to have it redone again.
