As we all know in most Trek the blue or teal was science and medical, with certain characters as of late the water can be a little murky, Stamets is a bit of a scientist and engineer...Jett Reno was primarily a engineer but was able to design medical equipment to replace dead medical staff

I guess what I'm getting at is would it be wrong for engineers to wear blue/teal if they were a hybrid of sorts?

(I mainly ask because I love the engineer class but I really like blue and teal colors and want it to make sense from a character perspective)

From a canon perspective medical technicians use the blue or teal colours but you could mix blue and yellow together and go asparagus.

So they way I see it with the two examples is that it was a weird situation. Staments although he is working on a new propulsion drive he is the lead scientist for the spores and only works on the drive when he has to.If you actually see him it isn't often he is changing much other than the control interface.
Reno was stranded on an Asteriod and using a Combo of First Aid knowledge and treating the body like a machine was able to keep her crew mates alive. That isn't really a division distinciton but one done by neccsity and trying to do the right thing.

If you want that blue but for someone more on the engineering side RP wise you just need them to be a Scientist helping to design a new Enginneering thing. But you can also have them start Engineering and swap to Science as we see Sylvia Tilly do in Discovery between Seasons 2 and 3. This gives them enough Engineering knowledge the help out on a new engineering project while still being in Sciences blue
