[Notice] - Scheduled Downtime - Mar 03, 2024 @ 2300 UFP Time

UPDATE:

Due to finding several blockers that would prevent a successful upgrade, we've decided to push the maintenance back by a week. The new maintenance date is Sunday March 3. 2024 at 2300 UFP Time

In an effort to ensure the UFP remains up to date on all security updates for our server, we will be taking the server offline on Sunday 25th February 2024 @ 23:00 UFP Time to perform necessary upgrades.

During this time, the website and Teamspeak will be unavailable. Discord will remain available, and updates will be provided via Discord whenever possible during the maintenance. At this time, there will be no changes made to the forums or the overall website. This maintenance is only to resolve certain high priority update items and ensure we continue to receive security patches.

Additionally, at the conclusion of the maintenance, the Teamspeak server will be retired. Over the coming days leading up to the maintenance, we will be updating the Teamspeak block next to the Who's Online list to reflect Discord members currently online.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the UFP remains a safe place for everyone.

Hi Josh,

The decision to retire TeamSpeak is due to the developers behind the software not keeping up with the current generation of internet users. The feature set lags behind Discord, and as such, it has become more of a relic of a bygone era. This decision was taken with the full consent of all CL4, CL5, and CL6 users, which after 28 votes to retire TeamSpeak, only 1 voted against, 5 abstained, and 22 voted in favour.

While the voice quality on Discord is inferior to TeamSpeak, and we don't have control of the data, we can still make efforts to moderate it effectively, and impliment bots that can add a layer of protection. Discord also allows users to share their screen, something which can be very valuable, the mobile app is free, and it can also be used via a web browser, making it very accessible.

Personally, I love TeamSpeak, I would rather keep it, but even at this point, I must concede that it is a relic, and to continue the growth of the UFP, we must adapt with the ever changing landscape.

I'm sad to see this go, as despite being superior in voice quality - TS3 is indeed obsolete.

The teamspeak has several relic and historical files in our file browsers, funny recordings, and so forth.

Will this be back-up?

Hello Mack,

Yes, those files will be backed up and stored securely. At this point, all that’s being done is shutting down the Teamspeak server.
