I'm really just getting back into Star Trek online and looking for an active VoIP group for assistance and group runs during my off work times and weekends (GMT-6 Central US). I had to start over with new toons last week since my old ones didn't make a transfer I'm being told. I have one toon that just reached 65 (KDF) and others (SF) I will be moving forward to max level. I'm just winging it with my builds right now and would love to dive deep into this game. Also, to be transparent...I did join a fleet with my KDF toon and help is hard to come by. Would this be the place for an old dude to hang out and learn?

Indeed it can be the place to hang. Welcome to the United Federation of Planets, old STO soul! (I love being able to write that! lol) I'm relatively new here myself!

Boy howdy does your intro read a lot like mine, except for your issue with characters! I was fortunate after my extended (5 yr.) absence. However, if this is your first time returning to STO after a break, I can say from my experience that it was a lot like starting for the first time all over again, even with all four of my previously existing characters. The irony was that I couldn't remember how to do much of anything and, in my case, wisely decided to start with a new character... tutorial and all, lol!

I do role-playing occasionally, but if I tried to do that here, I'd be too stoic and Vulcan-like to show the enthusiasm I feel. What's surprising is that this character, Zen, who goes by Chip informally, is now my most developed character in the game, which means a lot to me and doesn't say as much as one might think! I found the dynamics of shipbuilding, development and everything Star Trek to be a lot easier the 2nd time, even after the original five years of play, with a five-year hiatus!

Anyway, Welcome again! Feel free to contact me here or in-game, but I highly recommend joining the UFP Discord channel ASAP. Afterward, sign up for the Friday Red Alert Event. LINK HERE I went a couple of weeks ago, and it's an excellent place to start; bring your questions, meet some great people, and do some fun things. I hope to increase my attendance on Fridays as we get into the summer months. I'm retired and in my 70s, and I am also fortunate to have a very sympathetic and understanding wife. One might think that would give me plenty of time to do such things, but I like to stay busy :-) Nevertheless, I, too, am searching for some old souls that I might "click" with for gameplay! Family & IRL come first... (fortunately, Star Trek is part of my family, but still wants every second I can spare! ;-))

Sounds fantastic. Chip has me by a few years since I just made the hump into my late 50's. I'm still working currently and looking for a way for that to stop...Sadly, my wife is always kind enough to point out our current financial input to output ratio. I didn't realize having a house built would be a contractual obligation to work until I'm 120 years old.

I did join Discord when I signed up for the account here and I've played most of the games with posts in the forums.

I'll take some time today and decide on my course of action. After that, I'll probably give a proper resignation to my current KDF Fleet and hit the join application form.
