I am sure that at some point, as writers run out of ideas, the universes will intersect/blend. Then, inevitably, it will turn into an incoherent soap opera. And I am being optimistic thinking that writers will give us a couple of seasons before running out of ideas

The article on startrek.com seems to indicate that the show will run exclusively on CBS' paid streaming service. It's a dumb move on their part if that is true because it limits the audience to a small portion of viewers who actually use their service. I either watch tv shows on the nights they are aired on tv or I watch whatever episodes are available for free on the show's official page.

I'm hoping for Star Trek Uncharted myself. That way it can be new and different that hints at TOS inspired elements and finally moves past the TNG era.

Or something really cool like (hopefully) The Launch of the U.S.S. Constitution or the Exeter after Captain Tracy is exposed and killed off, if CBS wants to go retro.

I think coming into something like this with high expectations it's doom from the get go. Its been how many years since they even considered running another series of Star Trek, I think that alone should have you excited that it's coming to the TV again. IMO, who cares what universe it is as long as they keep to Gene's dream of the franchise.

My opinion is that it's more likely to be in the reboot universe than the original one. The reason why I think this is that the new movies are fresher in the mind of the majority of the people and really it's only fans like us that really care (or remember) about the original Star Trek.

But hey, TNG eventually was very good, so maybe this new series will be as good? The thing is TNG had the benefit of having Gene Roddenberry to remind them what Star Trek was about. Alex Kurtzman, not so much.

All this conjecture about whether it will be good or bad or new or prime universe is basically like looking at a pregnant woman's stomach and saying, "It's going to be a girl because the shape of the belly is more oval than round."

Even so.... conjecture is fun. I for one, will anxiously anticipate a new foray into the trek universe.

Also I'm not sure if it was mentioned in this thread yet but If I recall the JJVerse is owned by Paramount while CBS holds the licence to the TV and STO intellectual properties. So with that said it could be in the Prime universe, or a whole new thing unless they work together.

screw it, i'm going to throw in my few pennys worth too, As you know i actually regually keep in contact with some of the old Star Trek Creative Staff after working some art with them, i Can confirm at time of writing this Both Doug Drexler and Rich Stinebach have heard nothing about this, and the first they knew about it was the star trek.com post. keeping in mind doug has personally been pushing for Enterprise s5 with his campaign.

What universe will it be set in?
A: (I HATE THAT IM SAYING THIS) Logically its going to be the new reboot universe, for some reason common sense to me is screaming, only trek people have known since 2009 is new trek and it's what has brought in alot of new fans (yes i am actually one of the haters so this is extremely hard for me)

The fact its going subscription only first won't make much difference, alot of people will bootleg it, the others will wait till it comes to TV, though advoiding the spoilers will be fun...

the big question to me is are we going to be getting a NEW Enterprise, BECAUSE!!! - IF its in the Prime universe it has to be the G, H, or I. Star Trek.com has 100% made the F from STO Cannon as they did a feturet on it, and we have all seen the J (though i suppose that could change due to differences in the timeline after the time war has stopped)

My last bit of HOPE:
i think it could work in the new reboot (ARG AGAIN) but i think what makes us all hate the reboot (those of us whom do) is the fact its our original family they are messing with, Kirk Spock, Mccoy. if this was a new ship, a new crew a new family and had NOTHING to do with trek we know IE doesn't interfere with anything, it could be good/great even i just have to put up with those FUGLY Nacelles >.<

CBS Own Prime Universe, BAD ROBOT Owns reboot - No mention anywhere there did i see Bad Robot, just Alex Kurtzman and he has worked on other things than Bad Robot productions anyway so i am keeping my fingers crossed!
