"Yes indeed haha" Angus smirked answering Hoods first two questions, "The sickbay well, It's chaotic but I think we will have things organised by the time we depart."
Teriir followed the medical staff inside and respectfully placed himself in the back of the room. Although he was invited to attend by Captain Wilson, this was the Science and Medical officers' meeting. He propped himself up against a wall, next to a picture of an Intrepid Class starship.
Angus then sharply turned to the captain, producing his right hand over the table. "Captain Wilson, It's good to see you, sir."

The Science officer's joke made him grin for a moment.

"I'm here to join the party too," Teriir smiled back, "The Cap invited me to the meeting. I know it's for you and the Doc though so I'll be hanging out back here."

He looked over to the Captain's desk, realizing he was being introduced to the Chief Medical Officer, Angus Hems. He smiled at his fellow Trill and walked forward, extending his arm to offer a handshake, "Good to meet you, Doctor."

Angus finished shaking the captain's hand and after a short few words the Trill who 'joined the party' so to speak piped up after previously clinging to the back wall.
OOC: I just wanted to keep things rolling so if people don't mind we can assume that Eaglesg next post will be Wilson shaking Anguses hand and possibly a few words or a sentence, if not I will edit this post to fit the scene!

Angus asked as he socialized with his colleges. As he shook hands with the Lt. Commander he wondered if, he too, was a Joined Trill. He also thought how stupid it was of him to only read the personnel files of his department. Maybe it that he just liked to discover things through conversations?

He paused a moment, as if gathering his thoughts. “‘Gouda’ is me. That’s my call sign.” He noted a slightly puzzled expression on the Lieutenant’s face, and continued. “It’s a form of nickname; again, this is something human fighter pilots have been doing almost as long as we’ve been going up in the air. You don’t get to pick your own, and you might well hate the one your squad mates give you, but if you complain, it’s guaranteed the one you hate will stick, or you’ll get a worse one.”

With that explanation out of the way, Jim continued. “I didn’t start flight training until my second year at the Academy, so when I started I was a little excited; I felt like I had a lot of ground to make up. My first solo training flight, I was so amped, I forgot to raise my landing gear after take-off. Everyone got a good laugh, and I took it in stride, ‘cause what else can you do?”

In a slightly lower voice, in a stage whisper, Jim admitted, “Then I did it again on my second flight.” He made a face, a sort of self-admission of guilt, and continued. “Over the comms, someone yelled out, ‘Gear Up, Dumb-Ass!’ They put just enough distortion and encryption on the channel to not make it worth Command’s time to figure out who said it. So anyway, that yell kind of stuck in the cadet barracks, ‘Gear up, dumbass!’ G-U-D-A. Now, there’s a city in Europe on Earth, Gouda, spelled like this,” Jim gestured at the name painted on the side of his fighter. “There was this huge Dutch cadet in my barracks, Bakker, who started calling me Gouda, and it stuck ever since. Chief Ral must’ve been in contact with someone I knew in San Francisco, got it on my fighter for me.” Jim smirked.

As the two started walking back toward the turbolift, Jim ventured a question. “If I may ask, Lieutenant, how’d you end up as a Ship’s Counselor? I seems a little atypical for a Vulcan to go in for what my father would’ve dismissed as ‘the social sciences.’”

    USS Ares
    Deck 1 - Captain's Ready Room

USS Ares"Ah good to meet you too Lieutenant Commander, good to have another Trill on board haha... pardon my bluntness but you would be the tactical officer, correct?" Angus asked as he socialized with his colleges. As he shook hands with the Lt. Commander he wondered if, he too, was a Joined Trill. He also thought how stupid it was of him to only read the personnel files of his department. Maybe it that he just liked to discover things through conversations?
"Yes, I am," Teriir replied. He realized he sounded a little awkward and possibly even repetitive. It was just he was so used to the his previous physician's voice, a Caitian named Rarrla, who had a slight purr in her voice when she spoke. He thought quickly of something to say, "Are you joined, sir?"

After Angus told him that he was, he continued, "I'm unjoined. I thought about it for a time but decided that with everything I went through in the Dominion War, well, it would be best for the memories of those hard times to remain with me. I don't want to burden a future generation of those memories."

Teriir noticed Allan Hood's distant look. He knew the expression was that of someone recalling painful memories and understood that he was also a veteran of the war.

~"I hope he never had to go through anything like I did, especially like what happened at the Battle of the Shattered Moon."~

The Battle of the Shattered Moon was the most costly engagement his wartime ship, the Icarus, ever went through. They rescued a lot of the crew members from a small task force of other Federation ships, saving about three thousand lives, and then were ambushed by the Jem'Hadar. He was mercifully pulled out of his memories before they went too far by Captain Wilson as he started up the meeting.

    USS Ares
    Deck 1 - Captain's Ready Room

"Captain Wilson, Its good to see you, sir."
As he was shaking Angus' hand, Matt replied:

    "Likewise Doctor."

When the two Trills introduced to each other, and with the discussions about the Dominion War beginning. Wilson noticed that most of his senior staff was really involved in that war, and that even after all those years the memories were still present and painful.
He felt a bit guilty for a moment, because he was not there with everyone during this war. He thought that they actually suffered more at "home" than him on Voyager...
He then realized that he needed to have a serious talk with counselor A’Mand after the Ares departure.

Having let everyone chat a bit, the Captain said:

"Gentlemen, let's talk about our first mission before the real one. It's not less important, people are counting on us.
Doctor, is sickbay ready? Are the Science Labs too Lieutenant Hood? We are scheduled to depart in 30 minutes.
    "

Before the two officers had to time to answer, and because Matt was a bit stressed by the official launching of his new ship, he added:

"Mister Teriir, I also asked you to join us because Colonel Kira told me about some security problems in the station: I want you to secure with Doctor Hems all the mission supplies."

The room, once full of introductions and joking was now dead silent. From this very moment, things were going to get a lot, a lot harder. Exactly what Angus had been eagerly waiting for. Whether out of respect for his rank or otherwise Angus was the first to speak.

"All vital systems and components are functional and I estimate the sickbay will be fully ready by 12:00 hours tomorrow," Angus responded respectfully. Thirty minutes and this voyage will be, finally, underway. "As for medical supplies, they are all stored in the primary cargo bay of the Ares, some critical supplies are being stored in the Sickbay as well but its security measures haven't been installed yet."[/color] Angus finished.

"Sir, I am getting my department ready for anything we find on one of the colonies and all members will be reciting Cardassian biology." Angus added after only a second of silence, then stepping back to allow another to speak.

    ((Tag, Angus, Allan, Teriir))
Once Lt Commander Angus Hems finished speaking, Teriir moved up next, "The mission critical supplies are in Cargo Bay 2, specifically the humanitarian supplies we will be delivering. I will have my people review the manifests to ensure everything is in order. The security measures will be installed after I have met with my staff at nineteen-hundred hours tonight and drills commencing at O-eight-hundred tomorrow. I have a meeting scheduled with an Ensign Laxeth on some sort of shield upgrade at thirteen-hundred tomorrow as well."

He stepped back so Lieutenant Hood could speak.

((OOC: *Scrolled down and read Hood's post* I've had the same thing with the Dominion War and my character's involvement in it. Ever since I made my character I started drafting a story about it.))

    Deck 1 - Captain's Ready Room

Teriir noticed Allan Hood's distant look. He knew the expression was that of someone recalling painful memories and understood that he was also a veteran of the war.
    Captain Loomis…now, Commander Parker…gone.

Allan Hood never experienced death up close and personal, watching his fellow officers being killed with phasma rifles.

Hood’s tricorder scans indicated that the Jem’Hadars’ disruptor bursts contained anti-coagulants in the energy stream, preventing his fellow officers’ blood from clotting. Being one of the few science officers, he had to serve as a temporary medic, trying to remember anything useful.

When they first landed, they tried only stun settings, hoping to take a couple prisoners, use them as bargaining chips to delay any attacks. They had the strategy all planed out and ready. Instead, they quickly learned that only lethal settings could be used to stop the Jem’Hadar; stun had no effect. And, there was no bargaining.

With power packs running out, Hood handed, mostly tossed, his remaining to other officers and soldiers that were better shots. He shook too hard for accuracy and was too busy attempting to help the wounded.

The ensign applied pressure, tried to sustain their lives, tried to add a few more minutes. He struggled with cauterization in order to close the wounds and stop the bleeding with low stun settings on his type-2 phaser to no avail.

Am I doing this wrong? Is it the anti-coagulants?

It did not matter; his weapon finally ran dry, too.

Feeling helpless, being unable to successfully save his comrades, Hood gave up. Relying on the shelter of a boulder, he watched the soldiers struggling to hold their ground, guarding the communication array, yet again.

Hood remembered he was carrying his retractable longsword. Never thinking he would actually use it while at the Academy. He trained with the Academy’s European Swordsmanship Club, as a way to unwind after daily classes, earning a concealed weapon license, allowing him to carry it on his person. He eventually joined preprogrammed swordsmanship callisthenic holodeck programs, even writing some of his own.

    This was real.

Hood heard the screams, saw the suffering, smelled the scorched flesh. He could not get his shaking under control. Feeling as if he was having a seizure.

    Am I?

No; he was alive and fearful, curled up in a ball, waiting to die, shaking in the shadow of a stone.

Then, something clicked. Something primeval. Some primitive instinct to survive overwhelmed him. Feeling he was outside himself, watching himself. He stayed low, dragging himself passed soldiers, both fighting and fallen. He was on autopilot.

Somehow, he eventually flanked the Jem’Hadar, slipping under plasma fire. He knew all their locations, tracing their plasma fire back to their origin.

Hood dragged himself toward the firing Jem’Hadar that was mercilessly killing his Starfleet crew with ease. The attacker did not even bother staying covered.

The science officer reached to the small of his back with his right hand and pulled out the hilt of his blade, with a round pommel at the base. He activated the weapon as it silently unfolded the crossguard and released the blade.

While laying down, Hood braced his feet at the base of a boulder he barely crawled past. He cuddled the pommel in this left palm and aimed with his right hand. In one swift motion, he plunged the weapon into the Jem’Hadar thigh, withdrew, then angled the blade so that his victim would lean down into the point, piercing his neck straight through.

Hood retracted his blade and dragged himself to the source of the remaining plasma fire.

OOC: Asteropax, those couple sentences inspired a whole story haha wasn't expecting that. That was a good idea to slip those "painful memories" in the way you did.

"All vital systems and components are functional and I estimate the sickbay will be fully ready by 12:00 hours tomorrow," Angus responded respectfully. Thirty minutes and this voyage will be, finally, underway. "As for medical supplies, they are all stored in the primary cargo bay of the Ares, some critical supplies are being stored in the Sickbay as well but its security measures haven't been installed yet." Angus finished.

"Sir, I am getting my department ready for anything we find on one of the colonies and all members will be reciting Cardassian biology."
Once Lt Commander Angus Hems finished speaking, Teriir moved up next, "The mission critical supplies are in Cargo Bay 2, specifically the humanitarian supplies we will be delivering. Before Lieutenant Hood started to speak, the Captain looked at both of the Lt Commanders:

"Perfect gentlemen, you already know how to please me. Thank you very much, dismissed."

As Angus and Teriir were leaving the Ready Room, he then asked the Science Officer, who seemed to be a little lost in his thoughts:

    "Mr Hood ?"

“Everything’s shipshape, Captain,” Hood replied, bringing himself back to the present, “everything’s in working order and accounted for.”
As Angus and Teriir were leaving the Ready Room, he then asked the Science Officer, who seemed to be a little lost in his thoughts:
    "Mr. Hood?"
Straightening his uniform, Hood waited until the doors closed behind him before he began.

“I want to explain why we reserved the holodeck until ‘sunset’ today, sir,” Hood began, “I don’t want there to be any misunderstandings about the reservation on the same day as our maiden departure from Deep Space Nine. Even though there’s an accommodation in my file, I want to run it past you.

“On the holodeck, we built a tabernacle. It looks like the one we had on the northern coast of Hedrikspool Province, in the Nature Preserve, right on the beach, which we already lived in for seven days. We believe we are to live in it for one more day, completing the eight days, according to the Scriptures, as a reminder that the followers of Elohim lived in tents during the forty years in the Wilderness. Since the tabernacle is strictly a temporary dwelling place, it also reminds us that this life is also a temporary dwelling place, that our days are limited. It just so happens that the eighth day falls on our departure.

“Strictly from my perspective, sir, I’m taking it as Yeshua Ha-Mashiach is blessing our voyage,” Hood laughed, half-jokingly.

After being dismissed by Captain Wilson, Dyrell Teriir headed towards the turbolift with Angus Hems. He felt there was no point in holding off on checking the mission supplies in the cargo bays before he met with his staff tonight. It would give him a chance to see them in action while also give him some time to get acquainted with the Doctor. He read through the records he was given on all the senior staff of the ship but felt it was best to meet someone in person. Records were never completely accurate in defining who someone was.

"How long have you been joined?" he asked his fellow Trill.

The turbolift opened up after Angus answered so they stepped on. He thought through the ship's layout quickly to remember where the cargo bays were, "Deck 6."

As they started moving, he scrolled through his PADD for a moment to review the names. There were quite a few that stood out, such as Lt Jr Grade Delvok and Ensign Barron who he met earlier, but most were unknown to him.

~"That's good though. I don't want to know everybody on a new ship straight away. Still, it'll be good to be serving with Ian Locke again."~

Feeling self conscious all of a sudden, he gave the doctor a guilty look as he had been ignoring him, "Sorry. I haven't had a chance to go through my roster yet. I'm glad you had a chance to meet your people already."

After a few moments, Teriir remembered what he wanted to ask earlier, "Hey, do you think you can get me into an appointment for regeneration treatment sometime soon?"

When he was asked what it was about he replied, "Back at the First Battle of Chin'Toka, the console I was working on exploded and tore apart my left shoulder. The injury is healed now but there's a lot of scars left."

Angus and Teriir saluted and walked together out of the captain's ready room. Angus glanced back to Hood as the door to the bridge hissed open. He looked lost and had a slightly painful expression on his face. The captain noticed it as well, you didn't need to be a psychiatrist to know that a lot of bad stuff has gone down in the past. Probably PTSD from the war Angus thought as he walked in sync with the other Trill. The stroll to the lift was a quiet one. Angus was thinking of certain situations that may occur on one of the colonies instead of really paying attention to his surroundings. As the duo reached the lift and it too opened with a hiss the other Trill, now with a puzzled expression on his face asked.

"How long have you been joined?" he asked his fellow Trill.
As the two Trills entered the turbo lift Angus thought briefly, remembering how long ago it was.

"Well, I became joined right after the academy, I was 21 when that happened and I spent the rest of the year off adjusting to, well, everything," Angus stated, then going quietly to do the maths in his head for a few seconds. "11, I have been joined for 11 years."

Angus was a little shocked and re-did the maths in his head. He started to recall all the memories from when he was young. He used to hate space travel, It always made him sick but now the thought of being explores was exciting. At least his love for strategy and war never went away, though now he knew not to talk about it around the ship in case they were veterans of the past wars.

Feeling self-conscious all of a sudden, he gave the doctor a guilty look as he had been ignoring him, "Sorry. I haven't had a chance to go through my roster yet. I'm glad you had a chance to meet your people already."
"Don't worry about it, I'm a little preoccupied as well," Angus confessed.

After a few moments, Teriir remembered what he wanted to ask earlier,

"Hey, do you think you can get me into an appointment for regeneration treatment sometime soon?"
Angus was taken back for a second, the ship hadn't even left DS9 yet and already someone was asking to see a doctor. Regeneration treatment meant that someone had been in a scrap and came out with some bad injuries. Angus guessed that something bad had happened in the past few years.

"I believe our Dermal Regenerators are charged, but our heavier equipment dealing with scar tissue hasn't been constructed yet?" Angus replies matter-of-factly. "It would depend on where the injury took place and how bad it is, what happened?" Angus asks as he uses his medical training to recall all the procedures involved with varying injuries requiring regeneration treatment.

When he was asked what it was about he replied, "Back at the First Battle of Chin'Toka, the console I was working on exploded and tore apart my left shoulder. The injury is healed now but there's a lot of scars left."
"The battle of Chin'Toka was more than five years ago, how often have you been getting regeneration treatment?"

    The tactical officer answered bluntly.

"Okay, report to the sickbay after we inspect the cargo hold," Angus commanded as the lift slowly stopped at deck 6. saying goodbye to the veteran tactical officer Angus asked the lift to take him to deck 8, he would then check on the Sickbays progress.

    USS Ares,
    Deck 8, Sickbay

Things had become a little less chaotic as all the sub-departments where now focusing on getting themselves operational before launch. the other medical department heads had stayed on the bridge for a separate meeting with the captain. Making his way through medical science, where almost everyone in the room was now seated at a console, somewhere even starting to revise Cardassian biology as they had nothing better to do. Finally, Angus made it to the physical therapy room. It was quite big and spacious. a group of crewmen were struggling to build a walkway with rails, one cursing under her breath. It would be used for physical recovery when people were injured and couldn't walk for long periods of time. In the corner of the blue-carpeted room, Angus saw who he was looking for. A female Andorian who was the head of this sub-department, her rank was Lt. Junior Grade. Walking over he saw that she was working on building what appeared to be an Exoscaple at a small workbench with lots of shelving.

"Excuse me, Csahhillis?" Angus introduced himself, praying he didn't mix her up with the other female Andorian.

"Ah, good to see you, sir, what can I help you with?" Csahhillis responded, putting down the parts she was holding.

"Our Dermal Regenerators, are they functional?"

"Not to my knowledge sir, but I will get them ready as soon as possible."

    "Thank you," Angus concluded.

    USS Ares
    Turbolift

"I believe our Dermal Regenerators are charged, but our heavier equipment dealing with scar tissue hasn't been constructed yet?" Angus replies matter-of-factly. "It would depend on where the injury took place and how bad it is, what happened?" Angus asks as he uses his medical training to recall all the procedures involved with varying injuries requiring regeneration treatment.
"The battle of Chin'Toka was more than five years ago, how often have you been getting regeneration treatment?"
Teriir had to think through the question for a brief moment before answering. During the war, it was more important for people to be able to get back into the fight than to be returned to complete health so a lot of post trauma care was pushed off. At least the people he knew avoided it. His wartime starship was often involved in search and rescue operations so much of their supplies were given to the people they were assisting. It became a habit for the crew not to accept the fullest extent of medical care, insisting that it was given to other ships' casualties first. A habit which had continued even after the war was over.

    ~"Different ship and a different time."~

Knowing it would be a bad idea to lie to his new doctor, he admitted it, "I've only been getting treated once every four months."

"Okay, report to the sickbay after we inspect the cargo hold," Angus commanded as the lift slowly stopped at deck 6. saying goodbye to the veteran tactical officer Angus asked the lift to take him to deck 8, he would then check on the Sickbays progress.
Teriir headed off the turbolift and said goodbye to the Doctor before heading to the first cargo bay he would be visiting today.

    USS Ares
    Deck 6 - Cargohold 1

As Teriir entered the cargo hold, he heard a grunt off to his side, "I still don't know how you made it to Lt Commander."

Turning, he saw a human Lieutenant sneering at him next to a laddar. His blonde hair had been given a buzz cut and he had brown eyes. He was also holding onto a PADD, most likely the manifest for the cargo bay. He continued once he was sure he had the Trill's undivided attention, "You are the only guy I know who shot himself the first two times he handled a phaser."

"Oh? Remind me who literally has the worst score ever recorded on their first tactical station tests?" Teriir retorted, "For static targets?"

"Very funny," the Lieutenant looked away with a frown which quickly turned into a grin.

Laughing, Teriir walked over to clasp his shoulder, "Good to see you again, Locke."

"Long time no see, buddy." Ian Locke returned the greeting. The two were roommates at the Academy and started off as rivals before realizing they actually complemented one another nicely. Dyrell Teriir was one of the finest first year tactical students while Locke proved to be an exceptional security division cadet. They began tutoring each other and became good friends. They were both picked up by the Icarus during the war and they continued service together until Teriir was promoted to Lieutenant and given the position of CTO of the ship while Locke transferred to a new post in the Betazed System. His friend passed him the PADD he was holding onto.

"How have you been over the past few years?" Teriir asked him while taking the PADD and scrolled through it real quick to review what all was there.

"Well, security duties on Betazed," the Lieutenant replied, frowning slightly, "They went through a lot with everything that happened during the Dominion War."

"I believe it, the Dominion didn't treat the Betazoids very well when they conquered their home world during the war," he replied, feeling slightly irritated that his original question wasn't answered, "How are you doing? Has Carol's family accepted you? Are the two of you getting along okay?"

Locke went from annoyed at the correction to beaming in a heartbeat, "They were a little uneasy at first but I think they've come to approve of me now. We're expecting a girl in five months."

"Congratulations!" Teriir smiled. Carol May was a very interesting security officer who who was assigned to the Icarus after the war and became very close to his friend. He gave him a nudge towards the stacks of cargo crates, "Come on, you can tell me all about it while we work."
