Recently heard the Ubisoft and "Massive Entertainment" are making The Division's sequel and a tie-in storyline for part 1 and 2 of the games in a film adaptation. The film adaptation is already set to star Jake Gyllenhall, who played in a move I reported on for the FNS, "LIFE" about an alien thing that kills people on the ISS.
Thoughts on this?

Not hugely a flop but the game lacked a lot of the flame they hyped it up to have. The storyline's intended purpose was AWESOME in my opinion. Black Friday, Cash was were they put the virus and released it. NYC, a breeding ground for disease and death. And then the whole "agent in disguise waiting for a purpose" thing. It all makes sense for a Tom Clancy game.
The problem was that they lacked the support that they got for Ghost Recon Wildlands and the map wasn't as open as people hoped. I would have argued for a more open NYC map, not just in Manhattan but in Queens and Brooklyn and, the scariest of all places in NYC, Staten Island. They could have made ominous missions in Staten Island being that even in a real life situation the closest support would be from Jersey NOT Manhattan.
The whole storyline relied on YOUR skills and there was little help from the AI, even for a shooter like this. There were ZERO agents to help you and it wasn't a team of you against 30 AI enemies, it was YOU v. 50 enemies and three waves. That lost a hell of alot of people too.

The game was pretty good as long as the story held out. Once you completed it... things were very repetitive. Playing with a friend or two made the game a lot more fun. Solo is only ok for so long. Luckily I played through the story with two friends, so the experience was pretty amazing. Add to this playing it over the Christmas holidays, made it a bit more meaningful. As I live in California and the snow/winter in the game gave some feeling of a "White Christmas".
The story/movie, has a potential as it is an interesting concept (i.e. the Division and how the plague hits/mutates). The trailer movie was good, not sure if it would be full feature length movie good. The writing would need to be good, as with acting.

THAT shoulda been the Dark Zone! Staten Island is already an isolated, hard to reach area that no one ever goes to. It would have been the perfect place for the Dark Zone PvP area.
I actually found the map size to be ok considering you had to walk everywhere. My biggest issues with the game was that the over arcing story was interesting, but they didn't do a good job getting you invested in it. None of the characters were interesting, the antagonists were bland. Also, it didnt work too well as a numbers RPG. Quoting the popular argument "A guy in a hoodie should not survive a bullet to the head."
Thinking about it though, a movie might be interesting. Since they'd need to focus on the story, not gameplay, they could make it more interesting.

I have to disagree with some of the comments here. I believe the story was the best part of the game but there was always things to do either PvP or PvE. It really shone in the last update to 1.8 when more end game content was brought to the streets of New York. I love this game and have 800 hours plus. It is harsh to say it was a flop when you look at the numbers that played it and are still playing it now.
Don't knock it ;-p

Yep, I still play it and it's still a good game in my eyes. But I see the disagree for me here, with you at least, is that I disliked the way the story ended. there should have been a little more closure to the character, also, I would have been more interested in the game if there was more interaction from the government in the storyline. Everything was controlled by the "agents" there was no aspect of civilian government as there would be in a real life situation. I mean even in 9/11, there was still a civilian government running things for New Yorkers. The Mayor was trapped in a building when the towers fell and the city's public advocate still acted as mayor.
I would have made some sort of annoying character at least for gamer to hate that would play as Mayor.

The dark zone should have been in Staten Island and I would argue for a Brooklyn or Queens HQ for the agents to run stuff out of. Forcing the player to either swim, fly or boat their way to Manhattan island or enter the dark zone (in SI) through boating.
Hopefully, now that they made Wildlands kind of like that, Division 2 will be similar. Though there are rumours that the setting will NOT be NYC and instead be LA or Washington DC. All of the rumours are unconfirmed though.

I really enjoyed the Division 2. I got a bit tired of the gear grind, especially having to go to the Darkzone for it. I play games like these both in solo and sometimes grouped up. And solo Darkzone was an outright awful experience. People like griefing way too much. So every single time when extracting items, there would be people near by, fighting alongside you, but as soon as you try to attach your loot to the extraction rope, they would gun you down. Every...single...time... You just had to group up to deal with this. That bit is what really made me lose interest. Well that, and my friends no longer playing it so I was playing solo almost all the time, not just when I felt like it. Strangely enough, I heard many people complain about going rogue being too restrictive and everyone just playing like proper agents, but that wasn't my experience at all, not on the Xbox anyway where I played this title.
Storywise, it was just fine. I like the setting and the graphics. Some of the gear looked really great. The survival mode was a fun addition too.
I'd definitely be interested in a sequel, depending on how they tackle PvP this time around. And game movies are almost always awful so not too excited for that.
