Elloh folks! The name's Talon, but folks just call me Tal; it's an honor to be here.
- - - Basics:
Name: Talon V.
Nickname: Tal
Age: 25 (though I look anywhere from 15-19.. and at 22 could pass for 11 easy. )
Height: 4'9" (Yes, I know I'm tiny. Hush. XD )
Hobbies: Art, Everything SCI-FI, Everything Star Trek
Other sites: http://talonv.deviantart.com/
I hail from a small farm in the south-eastern corner of Oklahoma, within the Kiamichi mountains. We raise a plethora of different critters, ranging from rabbits to chickens to goats to a rare guardian dog breed, the Akbash.
Me? I'm about as hill-billy as you can get. A good ol' country girl that probably would fit in well with the Klingons, come to think of it (if I were slightly taller, that is... and a little less shy perhaps...). 'Specially since I think deep-fried snake tastes better n' turkey. And yes, I have tried worms too... not too bad there either.
Needless to say... not your average human. XD
As for becoming a ST fan, I have always been fascinated with flight, space, and the universe beyond our world. I'm a bit of an artist, and I've been drawing birds, aliens, and otherworldly creatures since I first learned how to hold a pencil. I've watched everything from Star Wars to Babylon 5 to Farscape, but nothing ever comes close to Star Trek, and the characters within.
Hugh was my first favorite character, and will always be, with Garak, Martok, Odo, and Nog following closely. Data is there too of course. As to favorite series... that one is harder. They all have their own special qualities. DS9. Enterprise. Voyager. TNG. Doesn't feel right singling one out as the best.
STAR TREK ONLINE
- @talonv#6612
Main Characters:
- Klingon
- - - shi'kra@talonv#6612 - Engineer - Hegh'ta Heavy Bird-of-Prey - Lvl 54
- Goals:
- - - Scourge Destroyer Retrofit - I know, not the best ship out there, but I absolutely LOVE the looks of it.
- - - I have no idea what T6 ship to start saving up for; probably just wait for the event ships. Always been driving a Bird-of-Prey... don't like the looks of the Kor too much, to be honest. ^^
- Federation (Romulan)
- - - aeryn@talonv#6612 - Science - Ha'nom Guardian Warbird - Lvl 54 (in a different fleet currently; will change that soon.)
- Goals:
- - - Definitely will be saving up for a Science Pilot Warbird... sorta want the pack, as I love the TAC's wings, but... that. Might. Take. Awhile. XD
- - - Very tempted in a Scorpion Fighter... they look so bloody fun to fly. Dunno if that'd be a waste of hard-earded ztokens or not though....
Got a couple other characters, a lvl 15 Romulan on the Klingon side, and a 2nd Klingon, but they are mainly slotted for dilithium grinding duty... or will be as soon as I figure out the best way to do said grind...
A few extra notes... and I've been working on this, but, I get /extremely/ nervous during any sort of group PVE mission, so, if I'm ever in one with any a' y'all, forgive me if I slip up a few times. Hoping I'll work my way out of that illogical fear eventually....
And I think that's it? At least most of the important stuff anyway. If anyone's got any questions, don't hesitate to send 'em my way! And don't hesitate to friend me/Shi'kra/Aeryn either! X3

Howdy. Welcome to the site, Tal.
Name: Marc
Age: ??? I don't know. I never kept track.
I am a boy from North Texas, USA. My hobbies include Writing and Avoiding Efforts. I'd tell you more but... Efforts.
My current main character (due primarily to having to start over for Agents Of Yesterdays bonus goodies) is Abby@Jeslyn It's my first serious attempt at using a Tactical Officer. She pretty much sticks to the Akira family of ships.

Welcome to our community, Tal! And thank you for the introduction! How did you like Babylon 5? I watched it quite some time ago and liked it a lot. In case of Star Trek I'm currently rewatching all series and so far there is a no contest between TOS and TNG, now in the middle of DS9.

Hi Tal,
Welcome aboard, it was certainly good to a read a little bit about you.
I usually shamelessly single out TNG, as in my [narrow] opinion, it pretty much sets the ethos for trek world. But like you have softspots in almost every trek series. B5 and BSG [re-imagined], BSG especially is close to my heart as well.
It is great to try out different toons to get to a comfort level that is good.
Good luck going forward. And as always don't hesitate to stop by here or in game to bug people with questions!

Thank you so very much, everyone! And I mean that most sincerely... this is pretty much the first time I've really gotten out of my shell, and all your kind words mean a very great deal to me.
Also, as a heads-up, my fleet invite seems to be glitching, so... trying to figure that out. (If I'm not a glitch magnet, I'll eat my hat.... brim, band, and all... XD )
@Asimov
Oh yes, TNG was definitely the trigger that shot me into the whole ST world. I really do need to watch those again, and get reacquainted with all those old friends. Then I'll have to watch Voyager again, and Enterprise..... just finished DS9 for the third? Fourth? time? I think what I like most about that series is the humor... and all the little quotes and things that stick with you for months afterwards. Like Rom's "MOOOOGIIEEE!". XD
In terms of STO toons, I am LOVING my Science Rommy, well, at least the space combat part. Still working on perfecting my ground combat.... needs a lot of work in fact. On the other side, I adore my Engineer Kling's ground, and I'm finally getting into the grove of the space.
@T'Tan
Babylon 5 was... in a class all it's own. Neither better nor worse, but definitely different. Character development was amazing, but what I loved the most was the way that they portrayed space flight. They used the inertia in a unique way... it's hard for a hill-billy without all the right scientific words to describe properly. XD But that's what I loved most. Did you have a favorite character from that series? Mine was G'Kar, hands-down.
@Marc/Jeslyn
Pleased to meet you! I'm going to try the tactical route soon, in fact, my Kling Rommy is a Tac... but I haven't been spending much time on her just yet. Working on perfecting the other two before confusing myself with a third. XD
Query to all; should I reconsider a non-Rommy Federation toon? I tried to start one awhile back, but then focused on my first Romulan, and I haven't been able to start another Fed since. Guess it's the slow-feeling start.... XD

Same here!
Like Rom's "MOOOOGIIEEE!". XD
That's my favourite so far!
Yes, B5 is definitely something special of its own kind. For me especially the story development was something I haven't seen before in a SciFi series. My favourite character is - believe it or not - also G'Kar, but I also liked Garibaldi very much. It was really hard for me when he turned in later seasons. I also have a not finished Romulan faction alien character that imitates a Narn. I might continue with this one soon.
should I reconsider a non-Rommy Federation toon?
I think this is mostly a question of taste. My main is a Federation Vulcan Engineer (see signature) that I enjoy very much. To be honest: it is the only char for endgame I have. Vulcan, because I like their logic way of thinking. Engineer, because I'm an engineer myself. And Fed, because from my point of view every Star Trek story is told from the Fed perspective, so I wanted a very canon feeling when playing STO.

Don't eat you hat. It'll be really hard to pass. Unless it's straw, in which case go ahead and enjoy the extra fiber.
I started watching the shows because of my parents. I had Star Trek and Star Wars models hanging over my crib. My mother used to watch sci-fi anime back when it was new to the US like Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) and Robotech (Macross). I picked it up through her.
Rommy Tacs are the hardest hitting characters that you can get. Adding the Bridge Officers with Superior Operative will get you a missive Critical Hit Rate, up to about one-in-three. Stick them in a Scimitar. Those are still top-of-line ships, even compared to other Factions. But you probably already know all of that by now.
Hm. I'd to hold off on doing any major Build work at the moment. If you haven't heard, they are changing pretty much every Space Ability in game right now. It's already over on the Test Server. It should be on the Live Server in a month or so.
Feds. Rommies have the high Crits, but Feds have about 20% more Subsystem Power. This is going to be even more of a thing since they hit the Energy+ Consoles in this change. I think that they said that the ever-popular Plasmonic Leech is being changed to a max +6 self-buff to power levels rather than the current +24 or so. Rommies are going hurt for power.
As for characters in general, I find it is more fun to have a character concept and build around that. For example, I have a Liberated Borg who is racist against organics. She only has Borg, Androids, and Photonics in her crew. I tell you, building a Duty Officer suite was difficult, but so rewarding in the end. But, yeah, she flies an Assimilated 10-Turret Galaxy-X (the extra turrets are Consoles). It is not a top tier DPS ship but machine guns a single like of shots like nobody's business. It was even more fun as when I would PvP with my friends because they get accustomed to the turrets' 360 fire angle and forget that the ship had that Phaser Lance up front. *nod-nod*
I have another character, a Trill who was my original Main. She is a child of Starfleet parents. She joined the Academy, but she's pretty dumb, so she cheated her way through Starfleet Medical. She was Doctor with no points in healing (back when heals were their own Skill Tree). She only had poison. She would try to heal people but would only make them sick (fun when playing on a team who knew her story, by the way). Once she hit Max Level I added a portion to her story where she was the only Trill nearby when a bell worm needed a Host. I respecced her with lot of Heals. Her symbiote was, unlike her, actually intelligent.
Galeaenyss is my Rommie. She is a Tal Shiar agent who is working undercover to bring down the Republic from the inside. She always sides with the Empress when the option is given. Always dresses in a Tal Shiar uniform. As an Agent, she always uses the Intel Specialization. I played her up until Agents Of Yesterday pretty much made you switch main characters to get then good account unlocks. A lot of my writing involves female members of her family in different settings like a Archduchess Naeasyss and her sister Xaean in a Science-Fantasy piece. Aearomi is a space pirate and slaver. Loraea is in a cult where she hopes to become a Wyvern Wife.
My current Main, Abby, is sort of an introvert. She is the Agent Of Yesterday character. I play her like a reluctant time cop who does the job because she was drafted in to it and rather dislikes it. She uses older weapons like TOS hand phaser and the Boolean (aka the Khan Cannon). She started off with the NX and progressed up the Akira line since they are all in the same family of ships. They primarily used classic old school Starfleet weaponry of phasers and photons. With the change to the space mechanics, I switched to a Torpedo Boat. Makes sense given that the Akira's on-screen model had 15 torpedo launchers on it.
Anyway, that is how I do things. I play by character and by what is currently in style.

Hi Tal, very impressive and in-depth introduction - Nicely done!
Welcome to our community Don't worry about being shy (but I'd steer clear of the member's lounge if there's too many CL6's, some of them bite!)
I hope you enjoy your time with us!
EDIT: Just to add that even if you get bitten by a CL6, they are all non-venomous so it's unlikely to do any lasting damage.

@T'Tan
And we mustn't forget Marcus and his hilarious wit... he's won 2nd place after G'Kar.
Ah; it being the most 'canon' of the factions is what inspired me to choose the others first. I've always been a different do'er. XD But I've no doubt I'll play it at some point; if there's a story, I cannot stand not playing it through in the end. Basically though, I was wondering if the story was as engaging as the Kling/Rom stories were.
@Jeslyn
No doubt it wouldn't taste too good either, but it is straw.... so there's that. (My goats love it at least... X_x )
Romulan TAC, well I did something right, ey? At least with one of my toons. Might have to turn that one into a main at some point... As for the Scimmy... upon first joining the Romulans, that was going to be my first choice, but... now, I dunno. Granted, if they didn't work, they wouldn't be so popular, but I prefer the zippy agility style over the more park-it-and-light-em-up style (though I could learn to go either way).
Assuming I could scrap together enough tokens, my preference would be the Science Pilot for the SciRom, Scimmy for the TAC, with a Scorpion in there somewhere for the sheer fun of it.
The Liberated Borg race is also tempting - I've always loved the borg... mainly for the fact that they scared the hooey out of me first time I watched TNG, and then there was Hugh... XD
But yes, I do focus on the story (and fun) aspects before all others. Or, well, try anyway. Most of it is in my head... XD The DPS comes after, or even by accident. XP
@Bedders
Thank you! (And thanks for the warning. X3)
I'll probably stalk around hither and yon for a bit until I get myself situated. There's a lot I still need to learn, but I'm getting there.

Rommie Tacs have certainly been famous in game since New Romulus was released many years ago. But give it a few more days and Science officers will start to become pretty famous too!
I totally like agile ships over park-it-and-pew-pew-pew and so have always jumped from one escort to another escort. The newer Pilot ships are really cool if one is into that for fun.

If you want to zip around then, yeah, you definitely want to pick up a Pilot ship. Their built-in Pilot Maneuvers lets them tumble and roll and do stuff that no other ship can. I haven't tried them myself, but I have seen other people using them. They look pretty fun. The main drawback is that they have, like, the lowest HP of all the T6 ships. So: trade-off.
The Liberated Borg is okay to play. Certainly not worth the $200 price tag (you can only them by purchasing a Lifetime Sub). They can't adapt to energy weapons like the NPC versions can. Cryptic hasn't bothered to update their costume parts, though. It's weird in that if you put them in clothes that expose their limbs (like short sleeve shirt or a skirt) then they lose all of their mechanical skin parts except the one on the face. On the plus side, they do have the Efficient Space Trait built-in (and at around four times the potency of the Bridge Officer variant, to boot). They have an optional Ground Trait that is an energy version of Assimilate, which is basically a Slow with a so-so chance of Stun.
Hugh. Ewww. I never really liked him. I preferred when the Borg were the unstoppable Big Bad. Hugh made them too personable. But then, I was always more of a Q fan. He was my favorite. I was always thrilled when he would show up. You knew things were just about to get crazy.
