According to "The Wounded," a Galaxy-class ship was able to scan a radius of 10 light years, taking one day to scan one sector, according to canon. At warp 7, it would take 11 days to cross 20 light years. Every 11 days, we'd scan one sector. Of course, we'd make pit stops along the way for exploring what we find.
"In interstellar mapping, a volume of space approximately twenty light-years across. A typical sector in Federation space will contain about 6 to 10 star systems, although sectors toward the galactic core will often contain many more."

I think it's the other way around haha we're to assume that each sector is a 3D cube instead of a 2D square. It's a 2D map projecting 3D space, so there has to be map distortion. The way I understand it, the charts are all made with the distortion taken into account, just like the maps today. Since most of the sectors are empty space anyway, they can get away with it.
If you really want to get crazy, these are only the sectors along the x and y-axes; the galaxy is 1,000 light-years thick. That means each sector square is really just one out of 500 along the z-axis.

By the way, I haven't got any JP for our conference meeting in the staff lounge. If you guys aren't into doing a JP, we'll just get the staff meeting started and you guys chime in whenever you want. Do you need more time?
Otherwise...
Kitty will let the senior staff know about the captain and rendezvous, and about our first stop at Dorvan V.
Commander Kitty will pretty much introduce all this in his character's words and his perspective, an independent, binary system of a G-class star and a K-class star, not associated with Cardassia or the Federation. Home to a colony of Native Americans from Earth, featuring a Habak. The colonists renounced their Federation citizenship and agreed to be governed by the Cardassian government in 2370. The planet's features include at least one continent, as well as mountains and rivers similar to ancient North America, Earth. Since the attack, crops have not grown to their full potential, due to radiation exposure. Colonists suffer from malnutrition, growing the minimum amount of crops necessary to their survival. Nausicaans raid remaining crops and torment the colonists for sport. Additionally, our mission is to find the weapons cargo, sort of like a treasure hunt. We'll see how that goes, justifying that Starfleet doesn't want it falling into the wrong hands, pirates and whatever, which we'll obviously run into haha
Commander Kitty will tell the crew that first mission of humanitarian aid to Cardassian colony worlds, located en route to unexplored space in the Alpha Quadrant. Our mission being to drop off supplies, including portable matter replicators and one industrial replicator for reach colony. Our goal is to temporarily help with making these colonies self-sufficient as part of the Cardassia Union's Reconstruction.
He'll remind us that, as representatives of Starfleet Command, we are to meet with the colonists and their leaders, earning the proverbial "hearts and minds" by taking 2 weeks per colony, to give Federation aid and hospitality, helping the injured, and creating new homes and infrastructures, in addition to any general relief efforts.
Security and our diplomatic officer can chime in that Cardassian space is teeming with Orions, Nausicaans, and Ferengi; they are taking advantage of the logistical chaos of these Cardassian colonies. Reports of Orions enslaving colonists, Nausicaans raiding ships, and Ferengi profiting by exploiting colonists, due to the desperate situation.
Docs, you guys say his status and how bad off he is, how bad we need to get to the hospital ship.
Commander Kitty will remind us that the Ares is expected to take all lawful steps necessary to safeguard the colonists through both negotiation and/or defense.
Commander Kitty will also be moving Teriir to first officer while Kitty becomes Captain Kitty. We should have Admiral William Ross appear on screen to give the promotions in real-time during the conference.
At the end of the conference meeting, the now Captain Kitty will announce that we'll have a send off for the captain while he's transfering to the Hippocrates.
The rest of the crew, engineering, ops, including me, will chime in our 2 cents if we want for the story.

Okay, just waiting on Nesta to kick us off. You guys can pull info from what I posted previously if you're not sure what to say. Your characters can ask anything, too.
I want to keep the overall story moving. So you guys can talk in the lounge and all that while responding to the regular story arc of the Ares mission, like being in the conference room.
We won't be in chronological order; we'll be skipping from regular story arc to whatever side stories everyone's working on, but that's ok with me because we have all our locations at the top.
Everyone read each other's posts and pay attention for your tags, otherwise we'll get confused haha
I've been on other RPs where they try to finish each side story first before moving on with their arcs and it frustrates everyone. Just keep responding to your tags and we'll be fine.
That all make sense?
Originally, I wanted this all in Commander Kitty's log and we end up at Dorvan V all in one shot. I'd like to see how we do altogether in the conference room. If people don't respond to it in a week, we'll just move on with the mission. They can backpost if they want to, we'll just keep moving on, too.

I've been thinking quite a bit about the scale and speed of Star Trek lately and would like to discuss it so we can more accurately gauge how fast and how far we're effectively able to travel. We know Sovereign Class starships have a speed similar to that of an Intrepid Class starship, we actually have a fair comparison of our ship's maximum speed. We can then add on a few days to the journey time depending on our warp factor.
Here's what we know from VOY Season 1; Caretaker on an Intrepid Class starship
- It would take the USS Voyager 75 years to reach Federation Space at maximum warp
- USS Voyager was 70,000 light years away from Federation Space
- Voyager's maximum warp speed is Warp 9.975 (meaning the Ares is extremely similar to this)
For the sake of argument, I will use the maximum speed for the rest of my tests here.
At maximum warp;
70,000 light years / 75 years = 933.34 light years traveled per year.
933.34 light years per year / 365 days per year = 2.56 light years traveled per day.
From other sources, the common agreement is that 1 sector is a 20 x 20 x 20 light year cube.
20 light years / 2.56 days = 7 days, 20 hours to travel across 1 sector
From your information from TNG and what I've calculated, we know for sure it would take the Ares a little under 8 days to cross a sector of space at Warp 9.975 and 11 days at Warp 7.
I think we can make some assumptions from there. We won't be travelling at maximum warp for the duration of our journey in order to prevent our ship from experiencing too much wear and tear. Our ship's cruising speed is Warp 8, which I believe would be about a 10 day journey for our ship. At Warp 9, I would estimate this same trip to be about 9 days. I think it's safe to say Warp 5 would take at least 20 days as there is a significant drop in speed at the lower warp factors. After all, Warp 1 is the speed of light (20 years to cross 1 sector).

I love this stuff haha
I'm figuring our cruising and average speed will be warp 7, taking 11 days to cross 20 light years. Every 11 days, we'd scan one sector, ideally, if there isn't anything cool to look at or explore, which there will be.
Of course, we'd make pit stops along the way for exploring what we find. We're not just buzzing through, we're survey mapping sectors. We'll come across new cultures that will draw our attention.
Our goal isn't to cover as much distance in the same time frame as Voyager. We're not trying to cover a certain amount of distance, but explore and map sectors of space, the nature of the mission.

I'll add onto that here with a few additional links which ought to be of interest. Memory Alpha had a page specifically on radiation poisoning and Wikipedia's page on Acute Radiation Syndrome. I know Wikipedia is not the most reliable but it's a good place to get some background information.

haha don't freak out, it just means you got plenty to work with. The details are cool but it's how your character handles the details, how do they make their patients feel and everything, too. You really only need a couple lines of medical explanation or whatever then it's all about you helping people, which you have down pat.
