I tend to enjoy these new films as a stand alone franchise, I don't think of them as Star Trek as such, if I did I would probably be cradling myself in a corner asking 'why' continuously.

Nice editorial Kerry, it is a very good read. I concur with Fallen that these are good films in their own right for the most part.
I just hope that the writers and director learn from the mistakes made in the earlier reboot films. Like blowing up the Enterprise because they don't need it anymore with trans-warp beaming.

I also tend to agree with Fallen. I follow these movies as their own franchise and not compare them to the previous movies. I also see a pattern that they might want to think about. Into Darkness and Beyond seem to be following in the same template as the originals, with Darkness resembling Khan and Beyond resembling Search whereas the Enterprise is blown up.

I'm not hyped at all, this is just another mindless action movie with a sci-fi theme. Which is fine with me, I really enjoy those from time to time.

Although I wouldn't mind an actual Star Trek movie coming out after this. So far this "reboot" has been more of an uproot, not enhancing what was there, but destroying it and replacing it with something else entirely.

I thought he wanted to make it more Star Trek-y but the suits weren't happy with that and told the writers they had to make it less Star Trek like?

The first trailer really didn't impress me, for me it seemed to show off all the elements of the reboots that I didn't like whilst not highlighting any of the bits that I did like (or disliked less).

I'm hoping that a follow up trailer might have a different focus and will convince me that this film will have at least some of the aspects of Star Trek that I enjoy.

The very first reboot Star Trek teaser trailer got me genuinely excited and interested by seeming to suggest that we might get to see some of the traditional Star Trek values about exploration and 'the human adventure', the actual movie didn't deliver on that for me, I'm hoping that this new trailer is just the same, seeming to be about one think but actually being a polar opposite.

I wasn't a fan of the trailer really, the initial news we heard suggested the film was going to be returning to the roots of Star Trek, but the trailer seemed to be more generic than ever. Not sure how the finished movie will end up.

I want to know who made this bloody ship. Its always being blown to pieces in the films, like it makes them more interesting. Shields need to become more useful.

I am kind of looking forward to the film, but its just becoming to mainstream for my taste. Just my opinion :emoticon_ShiftyEyes

For me there are a lot of better films coming out in 2016 that I want to watch and Star Trek Beyond is at the bottom of that list.

This hasn't met my definition of Star Trek in some time, hence I also share Fallen's initial viewpoint towards Beyond. Like many, left feeling hollow by the trailer and completely turned off from viewing in theatre.

I think there was more hype surrounding the newest Star Wars film than this.

As for the durability of the Enterprise in this alternate universe, let's just say MacGyver could make a better Enterprise out of a roll of duct tape, a turkey baster, a paper clip, and a pair of tube socks.

To help sell Star Trek as an action franchise, this trailer moves at a ridiculous pace. As if cut together by a Meth addict two hits away from an overdose. There’s a sick feeling for frantic forward momentum that turns this trailer into a headache inducing pile of nonsense. It’s like the marketing equivalent of two red bulls with a cocaine chaser.
