Hi!
I'm going to Northern Ireland in September, I was wondering if anyone in our fleet is from North Ireland? Or if anyone else has been there?

As it happens, I'm from Northern Ireland. County Down originally, but just over the boundary in Antrim now.

Oh cool! I'm going to Belfast, is there anything in Ireland that stands out? I've been in London once before but it was just a hazzle, and the cops kept showing up everywhere cause of terror threats...

You'll often see the Coppers around Belfast (though it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be) and you'll probably notice that unlike their London counterparts, the Police here all carry guns, the only place in the UK where every officer is armed.
While neither of them are in Belfast, the 2 things that would stand out are the Bushmills Distillery, which is in the town of Bushmills and Giants Causeway, which is about 3 miles away from Bushmills. You'll find them both if you head up around the north coast, which is quite a nice drive that Mrs. P and I take every so often for a day out. There's a particular bottle of 12 year old whiskey they make and their on-site shop is the only place that you can get it from. You can get custom labels on those if you ask, I've got one with the kids names on it to be opened when they're 18 in 2036.
In Belfast itself, there's the likes of the Titanic Quarter which contains the Titanic museum and the Odyssey complex. The Harland & Wolff shipyards are down this neck of the woods too and their 2 large cranes, Samson and Goliath, can be seen from most of the city. Victoria Square is a good place to start if you're looking around the city centre and if you head out of the city, there's a suburb of it, Ballyhackamore, that's got a load of nice places to eat. Go a bit further down that road and you'll see Stormont.
The Lisburn Road is also considered something of a hotspot for shopping and eating, though I'm not often up that direction and I hear that the Bullitt hotel in the city centre (it's a reference to the Steve McQueen movie) is a really nice place to hang out. Botanic Gardens is a popular spot too, there's a bar called The Botanic Inn (often referred to simply as The Bot) there that's popular and you'll find the Ulster Museum & Queen's University up this direction. Mural tours tend to be quite popular with the tourists too.

Yeah I knew about some of those, I was just curious about the city. Police in Norway carry weapons all over these days too, and we're going to Belfast to see Harland and Wolff and the Titanic stuff in general, I love the Titanic and White Star Line in general.

You’ll like the SS Nomadic then that’s down there, I don’t know what the tickets cost, but it’s the last White Star Line ship in the world and was one of the tenders that served the Titantic.
Belfast has its good and bad areas like everywhere else, but it’s a far cry from the days gone by. Much of it is built on reclaimed land from the river which is why buildings aren’t generally that tall. The historic buildings like City Hall, St. Anne’s cathedral, St. George’s Market, Custom House and so forth are all still there, but there’s been a lot of redevelopment over the last 20 years, especially along the banks of the Lagan. There’s a bar called McHughs near the Albert Clock - that’s the oldest building in the city.

I went to Ireland two years ago for my honeymoon, and it was amazing. While I stayed in Dublin, we did drive to Belfast for a day to see the Christmas festival. I highly recommend doing one of the guided bus tours, as they are cheap and show you a lot. We always felt pretty safe in the city, but we didn't find it to be as nice as Dublin.
You still see a lot of evidence of "the troubles" in Northern Ireland, where as in the republic of Ireland, It wasn't as obvious. The people in both countries are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and the food is amazing!
We plan on going back in the next couple years, as we spent most of our time in the republic and missed out on a lot of beautiful things to see in the north.
I highly recommend renting a car, it is a very small country and you can get anywhere in no time. But they have a ton of buses if you don't feel like driving your self. Only downside of renting a car is parking, Belfast has parking garages all over, where as in Dublin we always had trouble finding parking.
