Greetings all,
Starfleet Command has been discussing the possibility of providing better facilities on the forums for popular games outside of Star Trek. We currently employ the use of a general forum for non-Trek games in Member Communications. This forum does not lend itself to being a prime location for members to organize meet ups and other events in Non-Trek games.
To counteract this, we're considering providing forum space specifically for popular Non-Trek games within the fleet so members are better able to meet up with other {UFP} members. Initially, we will likely provide dedicated forum space for Minecraft, Project Reality, and Star Wars The Old Republic. However, we will always be open to supporting more in the future if the demand is there.
It is important to note that we will not be recruiting from these games, even though we will be providing some level of support for them. Like it is now, all new recruits will have to have a Star Trek game. The multi-clanning policy would also not affect these games. We're simply interested in allowing {UFP} members to play a wider variety of games in a much easier fashion with one another.
As this is primarily for your benefit as members of the {UFP}, we are giving you the option to choose exactly how we are implementing this system. The two potential methods are as follows:
- Option #1 - A forum titled "Holodeck" (Working Title) is placed on the main forum index under the rest of the divisions. This division would semi-support Non-Trek games in a similar fashion to the way Starfleet Reserves supports older Star Trek games with a dedicated sub-forum for each game. This option gives non-Trek games the most visibility in the fleet.
- Option #2 - The current "Non-Trek Games" forum in Member Communcations is renamed to "Holodeck" (Working Title). Each game is given a dedicated sub-forum. This option gives non-Trek games the least visibility in the fleet.
Star Trek games have always been and always will be our primary focus. We recognize that's why many of you may have joined the fleet. We hope that these two options will please people on both sides of the fence. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to post a reply in this thread or contact a Starfleet Command member privately.
This poll closes one week after this post.
Thanks,
Admiral Sharpkiller
Prov. Lieutenant JG

Definitely think it is a good idea!
Since the multi-clanning policy would also not affect these games, what is SFC's stance on recommending other gaming communities that our members might be a part of as well that support these non-trek games in regards to discussing the other communities and possibly directly/in-directly recruit for?
For example a few UFPers play X game and {UFP}Bob is part of X clan/guild for X game, would it be permissible for {UFP}Bob to ask (or even state the idea) if the other UFPers would like to game with Bob in the X clan/guild for game X?

I'd also went for option 1. And I agree with Lazereth. A new division would be the best option from my personal point of view.

Seems like Option 1 is popular. It's good to see such involvement, and be sure to let others know about this poll so we get the most conclusive possible result.
As Sharp has said we'll always be a purely Star Trek gaming fleet, but everyone plays other games, and why not let you guys team up and organise something for those odd games too.
In response to your question Lycos, I don't have a definitive answer for you yet. While the multi-clanning rule doesn't apply there are still advertising etiquettes to observe. It's something SFC will be discussing and I can get back to you on in the future.

Thanks Hath, just to expound on it a little more I was more meaning in a small sense of just bringing it up/mentioning other groups not full fledged recruiting.

I voted for option 1.
Since the primary forum list is already very long anyway, I dont see any harm in adding another line. Not to mention that its current location is basically "somewhere in the dark".
