I've just moved to a house out in the country and am trying to figure out what Internet packages offer enough to run STO. Being out in the country options are limited. Satellite is available, but still checking on cable providers.

I could use some advice on what parameters I should be looking at to make sure I can still play STO. I'm not sure what the minimum requirements should be considered.

Thoughts welcome.

Since posting this, I have learned that satellite internet is out only option. I know there are some issues with satellite internet and STO. Is there any provider that seems to have the least amount of issues that would be worth looking at?

Are we talking about the states or europe?

If so, it seems that satellite internet does cause of lot of STO disconnections. If ask some ISPs and ask if they can have cable routed out to your new location, it might be worth seeing how their prices for that kind of labour would be.

Sorry, in the states.

We actually tried that. We called and they don't have the services out here and are not interested in routing cables our way. 2 miles from nearest town, you would think that's not all that great a distance but it apparently is. Good idea though.

Ironically enough, we have fiber optic cables running through the edge of the propert but no way to connect into them.

Its probably latency issues with satellite broadband if I was to guess, as you should be able to run STO on a fairly slow connection. I've run it on a 2mb down 0.4mb up connection without issue. Obviously painful downloading large updates at that speed.

I now run an 80mb down 20mb up and it makes very little difference as latency is very similar.

Minty Chris, do you have many disconnect issues? Who do you get internet through?

Any have Dish Network that's running STO? They seem to have a good package available. Just not sure since it's satellite internet.
