Thank you Remissus for writing this up and Torinth for editing. I can't really say yet if I'm exited about this. The first two JJ Trek films were entertaining for what they were but I miss the prime universe trek. And knowing of Damon Lindelof, from his Lost days, he like to screw with people, so I'll definitely take his statement with a couple of tablespoons of salt.

Indeed thank you Remissus for writing up this story. I hope Roberto Orci doesn't do anything to trample on the Prime timeline as Abrams did!

To be fair, he did apologize for that...
I think the quotes from Lindelof can be thrown out since neither he nor Abrams or Kurtzman will have anything to do with this film other than a little Executive Producer credit for each. Orci is a fan of the franchise and has been setting up the universe in which we find ourselves with these new films in the Ongoing comic series. Even though it's his first time out in the big chair, I think we'll be okay. He knows this film is a BIG one of the franchise as it's set for release as Star Trek has it's 50th birthday.

I think the biggest problem isn't necessarily what he said but how he actually thinks.
Into Darkness really was awful yet Orci didn't seem to understand not only that it was a bad film but why Star Trek fans thought it was a bad film and that I find really concerning, if he can't comprehend the problem then I don't think he is the right person to solve it.

I agree with you Chris, Both Star Trek films are good for their action qualities and visual effects (Lens Flare) the 'Trek' element is completely absent from the movies. I just hope to god they don't touch TNG and ruin the Galaxy class!
The Prime timeline is where Star Trek is and it is in the established canon that it does so well, for Abrams and Orci to completely disregard the canon is both painful and it removes the 'Trek' element from the movies. Honestly if they asked the TNG crew to come onto set a film a continuation of "What Happened After Nemesis" would please both fans and new comers alike.

Oh I would love to see more Trek set in the prime universe, even if it was after Voyager (One which didn't really do a whole lot for me), but considering the box office results on Nemesis versus JJ's, I think we can safely say that ship has sailed.
So, I choose to be positive, and maybe this guy is some idiot savant for Star Trek... I could happen.
... it could.
In the meantime though, the Axanar stuff is fantastic, and happily gives me something entirely positive to look forward to.

The main issue is that they are trying to revive the franchise on the big screen when they really should be doing it on the small screen. Star Trek is an ensemble space drama which needs time to develope characters and story arcs. They need to have the freedom to dedicate episodes to the individual characters to give us reasons to care about the characters.
I enjoy the Star Trek movies as much as the next guy but none of them would be good without the series that came before them.

While I do not "hate" the more recent so called "Star Trek" movies (hatred too much effort), I do think they are NOT good for the franchise (contrary to many "trekkies" thinking only of the financial success of a franchise). In the end I just do not care for these movies, just like I do not care for Transformers, Superman, or Spiderman movies

I've got to agree with Hermanator. The first movie was tolerable, because of newness and original plot.
The second made me very angry.

I both liked and disliked the second movie. I could go on at some length about what I disliked, but there'd be few surprises in that.
What I most liked was that it tried to bring forward one of the core Star Trek themes: our protagonists, while not pacifists, are earnestly trying to avoid violent confrontations and are not using violence as their first tool for solving problems. It was interesting to see it framed as an internal conflict for Kirk, for instance, who viscerally enjoys fighting.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure how well that comes across, especially as the narrative ends up justifying the violence that the protagonists do commit in the light of the greater violence they are preventing -- which we do not see. That rather dilutes the message.
