George Takei has responded and taken the "Ice Bucket Challenge" in response to being nominated by Jeff Bezos of Amazon and has nominated Buzz Aldrin, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Sir Ian Mckellen to take the "Ice-Bucket Challenge" to raise awareness for ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)

George Takei has also made a donation to support and create awareness of ALS.

No offense meant. I knew about the ALS campaign. Just tried, probably in poor taste, to make a joke about the age of the stars. In no way was I trying to denigrate the campaign or the illness in any form.

No problem, I appreciate the fact you explained what you meant. I know that you were not trying to denigrate the campaign in any form, it's just the way I read your comment. Don't get me wrong it is an excellent way of raising the profile of this condition and I applaud all of the people taking part and what they are doing to raise awareness but I can definitely see it not being too... appropriate for some people

As someone who has done several weeks working for a national british newspaper I know exactly what you mean. If we were to acknowledge that the New Statesmen are correct in stating that a lot of these ice bucket challenges were self serving, isn't it funny that the first person to publicly refuse to do the challenge is in fact Pamela Anderson? One of the most self serving people on this planet.

I think I probably disagree with the New Statesman on this. Everyone from Takei to George Bush seemed to, in my opinion, do it mostly for the right reasons.
