Good afternoon everyone.

As some of you may recall earlier this year I SOUGHT FEEDBACK FROM THE COMMUNITY about a number of ways that we could improve on how we communicate about the direction of the community and what work is being done behind the scenes.

One of these ideas was to launch 'Community Logs' and 'Supplemental Community Logs' and the response to this was very positive so I went back to FEO with the feedback I had received and we agreed that it was something worth doing.

SO WHAT ARE COMMUNITY LOGS?

Community Logs are weekly scheduled updates from FEO. Each week a single member of FEO will produce a report for the membership. This will have a brief refresher of who the member is, what their job role is and what they are currently working on. We currently have 8 FEO members so in the space of two months the community will receive one Community Log from each FEO member before the cycle starts again.

SO WHAT ARE SUPPLEMENTAL COMMUNITY LOGS?

Since we currently have 8 FEO members each FEO member will produce a Community Log every two months, a Supplemental Community Log would be for if a FEO member wants to provide an update or seek feedback on something at a time other than when they had a Community Log scheduled. Supplemental Community Logs would therefore not be scheduled and can be made as and when.

WHERE WILL COMMUNITY LOGS BE POSTED?

When I first discussed this with FEO I envisioned a sort of Community Updates Hub powered by the same system we use for NEWS and this is what I approached the community with as a possible way of how this might look.

Since those initial conversations took place that possibility has been further investigated and it has been determined that it isn't possible as we don't have the ability to duplicate the mechanics of the news system so apologies for that.

Community Logs will therefore live in the COMMUNITY NEWS area which is where this thread that you are reading right now is located. The Community Logs do qualify as Community News and posting them here does allow all community members the opportunity to both read them and to respond to them.

WHEN ARE THE COMMUNITY LOGS BEING LAUNCHED?

We're aiming to go live with this next weekend so the first log should be posted on the 13th or 14th of September, Community Logs will then be posted weekly from then. The current schedule is as follows and will repeat at the end of each cycle, this is however subject to change:

WHAT ABOUT THE AMAs AND FEEDBACK REPORTING THAT WAS MENTIONED IN THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL?

The feedback that I received was very positive for both of these and FEO are committed to implementing both of these proposals.

Discussions are still ongoing as to the best way to implement AMAs. Since we have a membership that is spread around the globe we're keen to find a way of doing AMAs that will allow everyone to get involved, we also want the process to be as simple as possible both for those asking questions and for those answering questions.

Feedback is now being managed by the Federation Council rather than FEO however an announcement about Feedback Reporting will be made in the very near future as soon as a few tweaks are made to the feedback form.

Glad to hear you are looking forward to them, just to make clear though the image was only a mock up to show one possible way of presenting these logs to the membership. Unfortunately it proved to be beyond our ability to deliver them in such a way so they will take the form of threads in the Community News area.

I don't expect anyone will be talking about Llamas or cheese but I suppose you never know we live in interesting and ever changing times.

I'm sure someone will sneek in a cheeky reference here or there, but I feel that this is also an important step in solidifying the relationship between FEO and the membership as there has been disagreements and differences of opinion in the past about certain decisions.

It will be interesting to see what sort of ideas and points will included in these logs.

FEO is Federation Executive office, they are the group in charge or the overall running and managing of the UFP. An AMA is ask me anything, and it something typically seen on reddit where you can ask someone questions and have them answered.

I've been waiting to see these finally make an appearance. I hope this will add a little more light to what goes on up top! But I especially can't wait for the AMAs to kick in!
