The time has come. The time for humankind to unite under one banner, and to rule the universe under one set of core principles that will forever guide us into the utmost ranks of harmony and prosperity...
Wait, no, that's just the start of a great short story. So yes, it's time to break out your pen or favorite writing app and start creating. As we've done in the past, we will run a short story competition, anonymously written and objectively voted - all by you the community of UFP. The rules are similar to competitions in the past, with pretty much anything science fiction themed as was decided by you. We all look forward to great writing once again.
The UFP has a lot of creativity with successful writers and artists abound. Let's see the same this time!
RULES
The point of the short story contest is to show off your writing and story-telling skills. This can be a couple paragraph quip all the way to a several page tale. As recommended in the past, towards the shorter end is probably more ideal as it allows people to get into the action quickly (especially if there are many submissions). But the length is your choice.
Remember, in order to anonymize this as best we can, try to avoid using your own name or those of your known characters. We want to keep any bias out of the voting if at all possible.
The theme this time is wide open to anything science fiction, as you voted. So write to your hearts' content in that genre, and remember to keep it to PG-13 and within our UFP Code of Conduct. Stories are due April 25th.
To keep things interesting, I am putting a minimum number of submissions on this before we vote. So I must have three stories by the 25th to take this to a vote. We did one with two stories and it's just not as fun for the readers.
PROCESS
The process is simple:
- First, plan and compose your story - again, on the shorter side is probably better (especially with a lot of entries).
- Submit your entry by sending a PM to me, >> Caymen Greener <<. Include the title and content, and a one-sentence genre descriptor if you feel it necessary. Submit these to me by Saturday, April 25th!
- Shortly after that deadline, we will vote as a community. The stories will be posted to a voting thread anonymously, in the order in which I receive them.
- Voting will last roughly a week, after which a winner will be announced publicly.
THE PRIZE!
Other than eternal fame and glory, there has to be a prize, right? The winning story and its author will be featured in our News outlet to be read by all those in and out of the UFP community!

I have added a small rule in that I want to have three (3) submissions by the 25th before we take it to the voting stages. I think it will be much more fun for the readers and simply a better "competition" if we have at least three. I've already received one, so get your content into me!

I thought I would bump this thread. It's about a week since it was announced, and a bit more than a week until the deadline. I've still only received one submission thus far. I need at least two more. And for those of you getting involved in the Ares STRPs, this would be a good "prologue" for your character or just practice for writing. Remember, these don't have to be long - a few paragraphs can actually be a tantalizing tale!
