    Lol this debate has been going on forever, I remember having it back when TNG first came out. It was great fun to get all worked up; but I like both captains for different reasons, even if I have my favorite.

    Each Captain represents a part of a starship Captain's life. Kirk is the young and brash Captain who's learning how to do this on the go. Picard is the man who's been through so much in his life. Sisko is the ravaged veteran. Janeway (yes, I'm going here!) is the one thrusted into an entirely unexpected position and having to cope with it. Archer is a Captain who's got to play ambassador.

    <_< NuKirk is just a retread, we're not going there.

    Greetings all, this is my first response to a post so I am hoping I do this correctly. First I would like to say that I look forward to my time with the UFP, it appears to be a fun community. Regarding this topic; well, I kind-a grew up with Kirk and so I have to lean that way. Brash and idealistic when young and more pragmatic when older "Besides which, I think the Galaxy owes me one". Picard, most capable but, a little too pretentious for me. Janeway; would have put in for a transfer. Sisko; an angry man and would have stayed out of his way. Archer, for me, a close second to Kirk. A little to wimpy until he started to get his a-- kicked then he came around. The new Kirk, jury is still out, but not bad.

    Maybe I'm biased towards Picard because TNG was my first trek series. But I think it isn't a strech of imagination to claim that the charecter Picard, so excellently played by Patrick Stewart, sets the ethos of trek.
