Hi guys, so a friend send me a link to ST: Renegade.
Enjoy the movie!
It is nearly ten years after Voyager's return from the Delta Quadrant, and the Federation is in a crisis.
The Federation's main suppliers of dilithium crystals are disappearing.
Space and time have folded around several planets, effectively isolating them from any contact with outside worlds.
And this phenomenon is not natural - someone or something is causing this to happen.
This necessitates drastic measures; some of which are outside the Federation's normal jurisdiction.
For this, Admiral Pavel Chekov, head of Starfleet Intelligence, turns to Commander Tuvok, Voyager's former security officer and current head of the newly reorganized Section 31.
Tuvok must put together a new covert, renegade crew - mostly outcasts and rogues - even criminals.
This new crew is tasked with finding out what is causing the folding of time and space, and stopping it - at all costs.
But will they be able to put aside their differences and stop trying to kill one another in time to accomplish their mission?

Not sure I can take this seriously. The premise seems cool, but Admiral Checkov still alive? Along with the same old usage of time paradoxes?
I commend Tim Russ for wanting to carry the flag, but maybe some things should just be left alone?

It looks interesting to say the least. I'm not sure how Checkov is still alive looking that young but hey I'm sure they have a decent explanation.

Ok, I have to be honest.
Despite the critical flak the JJ films get among the stubborn "fanbase"...a fanbase stuck in the dominion war, stuck in the 2370's, a "fanbase" who think Voyager is suddenly the "be all and end all of star trek"...at the very least the JJ films have the honor to not have Rengades in it's cannon.
To continue on with the honesty: Renegades does a major disservice both in terms of Tim Russ' refusal to just move on as well as his vision to cater to the "fanbase" who felt slighted by the JJ films. Renegades is a poor fan made movie with a large kickstarter budget. It has the feel of a SyFy movie of the weekend and is probably about the same level as Highlander - The Source. This is a bad movie. And I hope the "fanbase" is happy. The stagnation of the 24th century that began and continues with Voyager and DS9 continues...for a little while.
If Renegades is a hopeful TV pilot, I'm prying to every deity known to man it never gets picked up. It would last half a season and ruin Star Trek further than what the "fanbase" delusionally believes.
Hopefully, Star Trek Uncharted will be better.
Look, I GET IT. To some people,Voyager is Life, Voyager is love. Everything should be about the Dominion War and we should never see the 2400's because that really wouldn't be Star Trek right? Progression bad yet Voyager'esque themes are great?
This is why Trek fandom is in serious trouble. We've become narrowminded and have forgotten to embrace new concepts and ideals. Even Roddenberry himself had ideas about rebooting Star Trek. We've forgotten that Star Trek is about progression and acceptance along with the notion that there could be hope for the future. Exploration has been replaced by conspiracies and war.
If Star Trek IS to survive, then it needs to get back to it's roots. Because "fanbase" drivel like Renegades won't save it.

I'll have to agree, while I appreciate Tim Russ' work on this project, I can honestly say it wasn't very good, poor writing, poor acting, poor effects.
I do wish there was more trek in the prime universe as opposed to the JJ verse but I will take what I can get.

Bond I have to wholly disagree with you. JJ trek in of itself is a good sci-fi action movie with a trek theme slapped on top.
Whilst Star Trek: Into Darkness was a far sight better in terms of paying homage to Roddenberry 'Trek' compared to the first movie which trod on well established canon and alienated alot of fans.
Considering this I hope that the new Trek movie is going to follow suit of Into Darkness. Although the magical Khan blood was rather ridiculous(!).
That being said I will always prefer 24th Century prime universe Trek. Maybe its because I am part of the Dominion War fandom but I still believe it was certaintly a height for Star Trek as whole.
It allowed us to see a dark side of Starfleet like for example bringing the Romulans into the war and how desperate it had become.

I made it to the 11 minute mark. That was... terrible. It almost makes Andromeda look good. They'd have been better off dropping any pretence of it being Trek and making it there own sci-fi universe. I've been re-watching DS9 lately and it's a great show, but yes, Trek does need to move on to the 25th century. Jumping ahead 80 years worked fine for TNG. So long as producers manage to keep to the idea of the franchise, I'm sure another jump like that shall work great.
Also, I really like the JJ movies. They did a great job of capturing the feel of Trek and keeping true to what's come before. The only thing I've never liked is them destroying Romulus for a plot device. :p Oh, and the magic Khan blood that you know is going to be magically forgotten in the next film.
EDIT: As for non-official productions, Axanar is where it's at. That is gonna be great. There proof of concept film was amazing and in every way far superior to Renegades.

Okay I finally found time to sit down and watch.. whatever this was... I made it to 9 minutes before I had to close it. Those are some really cheesy effects, poor acting, poor story.. Axanar is going to set a new bar as Endeavour said.
Even though I'm not a major fan of JJ Trek, the production quality is far superior compared to Renegades.. the costumes were odd... and those sets especially that Galaxy(?) bridge is just saddening. I counted at least 4 occasions where I could see the rubber ridges start and end on the Klingons forehead... as far as I can gather.. some planets blew up.. torpedos were fired and then I closed the tab.
I understand Tim Russ worked on the project and I understand it being fan-made is going to come with budget restrictions and that can affect production quality, but it feels like they didn't really 'try' to make it good in that sense. In my earlier post I said that the first JJ Trek movie was:
JJ trek in of itself is a good sci-fi action movie with a trek theme slapped on top.
I believe I am going to retract that statement, Star Trek: Renegades is a prime example of the Star Trek brand being slapped onto a product. Its not really the 'Return to Star Trek' we are all hoping for (whatever your vision of that is) and I believe that projects like Axanar are one of the few groups of fans to create quality Star Trek fan-made films that capture the essence of Roddenberry Trek.

Actually, you don't have to look far for a high quality example of Roddenberry Trek. It's right here. Not for everyone obviously because it's very TOS inspired. People who started watching Star Trek at DS9 and VOY should probably abstain.
As for Renegades, I did watch it. I watched worst and read much worst than that. 4/10
As for JJ Abrams' movies, which I hesitate to call Star Trek, they are not my cup of tea. Even without the franchise label I would dislike the movies. Adding Star Trek to it's title adds insult to injury. 2/10

ST:Continues and Phase II are both great. They have some really solid writing and far better production values than Renegades did. Generally better acting as well.

So having watched it in its entirety, I have to say I found it... Ok, not great, but not the worst thing I've ever seen.
I agree with you Endeavour regarding Phase II and Continues you can see the love for the franchise but with this it just doesn't have that thing that'll allow me to overlook dodgy acting and ok effects.
And in regards to the main character Lexxa why was she needed? What did she bring to the table that made her so indispensable? She just kind of stared ahead a lot of the time.
I felt like there were scenes missing that show us why she matters and how valuble she was suppossed to be.

1. Watched it from start to finish. Yes, it was cheaply made. Yes, it could have been better with, say, more money. That being said, while it did have its flaws (and makeup and costuming were certainly part of them) I didn't dislike it. I'd give them a C+ for effort. Better funding may have even gotten them a B.
2. Don't get me started on J.J. Trek. While I think the Enterprise crew was brilliantly cast, changing canon, even to the point of how McCoy got his nickname "Bones" is in my opinion, unforgivable. (For those who do not know, Bones was short for "Sawbones" an old western nickname for a doctor because they used actual hand saws for amputations.) I can live with solar flares and high-end graphics but leave the known comodities alone! PERIOD! I for one am happy to see J.J. out, since it's obvious he cannot respect the franchise. We will see what happens from here.
What I really need is a cupholder and a couple of Advil.-Quincy Taggart
