I'm just curious if other players use ships and gear to portray (at least in part) actual canon ships from Star Trek? I don't mean role-play, but more like established canon ship classes, Phasers and Photons/Quantum for Federation, Disruptors and Photons for Klingons, and Disruptors and Plasma for Romulans? That sort of thing.
I like trying to make good, strong builds while confining myself to those parameters; For example, my next project is a Fleet Heavy Escort Retrofit that will be an Akira carrier, beam and torpedo boat as the original designer intended when making the model. I'll be putting an omni-directional phaser on a rear slot to boost damage output while still keeping the torpedo rate of fire up.

I used to do that, or at least always had a torpedo in my builds, but then I eventually stopped, I just gave up on my attempts to have a more canon feel at some point. Don't know exactly why and when, but I started to go along with the game's silliness.

I have what I call a "Foundry" build which is a Fed cruiser that uses 3 fore and aft phaser beams and two quantum torpedos.
I would never use it properly in an STF or the like, but for running a Foundry mission I like to use something that has a canon feel to it

I always use phasers on my Fed ship....but do not use photons for the reasons stated above. That's as close to canon as I can get.... ALTHOUGH, I did break out my Constitution class ship the other day....complete with BLUE phasers! It was, as a Klingon would say... glorious.

Theres something about the old TOS connie with MK XIV Epic TOS phasers! I wish they'd give us a T6 Connie or a T6 Exeter class so we can use the Connie skin
