Hello everyone.
I'm very much aware that there will be a considerable number of members that know me and probably an equally large number of members that don't so I'll try and speak to both in one post.
I'm Christopher. I've been a UFP member since... Tuesday the 10th of June 2008 according to my profile so let's go with that. During November 2014 I went on a long term LoA due to work as I had recently been given additional responsibilities and was going to be starting a two year development course. Fortunately I've managed to get through that faster and should be getting signed off tomorrow hence why I'm back from my LoA now.
Since I've been gone most of my time has been spent working. The few exceptions and highlights have been getting married just under three weeks ago and receiving an honorary degree just a few days ago. Aside from that not really anything worth updating anyone on.
My activity is likely to be up and down for the foreseeable future so for the time being I'll just be pitching in here and there with things so I'll probably annoy the signature team by asking them to put something nice and generic on my signature to avoid confusion.
Please feel free to come and say hi if you see me on TeamSpeak or to drop me a message on the forum and I look forward to getting acquainted or reacquainted with all of you. In the mean time here is some information that an incredibly handsome and awesome member suggested that I post when making threads here.

I honestly don't recall. One of my earliest memories of Star Trek was The Motion Picture but I couldn't say the first time I was exposed to Star Trek or at what point I really got in to it.
YOUR FAVOURITE STAR TREK BOOK
Deep Space Nine - Millennium omnibus.
I know it might be cheating as it's a collection of three books but you can buy it as one book so I am counting it. For me it is one of those few Star Trek books where there isn't a B story you find yourself rushing through to get back to the A story, from start to finish I enjoyed it and the scale of the book is huge with a story that spans both time and space.
YOUR FAVOURITE STAR TREK CHARACTER
From TV - Data
Data is a massively enjoyable character for so many reasons but I love how he challenges and queries what it is to be human and how humanity rubs off on him.
From books - Elias Vaughn
I think Vaughn is a fascinating character. I love that by way of featuring both in the TOS timeline during the movie era and post-Nemesis books you get to see his growth as a character and I particularly like the fact that unlike many Star Trek characters he does have some very human flaws.

Deep Space Nine - The Jem'Hadar
Incredibly tough to pick a favourite and on any day I could easily give a different answer. I went with this one as it had a good mix of story and action and served as a major shake up for the Star Trek universe.

The Undiscovered Country
A proper passing of the torch from TOS to TNG and some really great themes which are just as relevant today as they were back when the movie was made and one of the best villains in Star Trek history.

I've always thought that principles are very important and whilst sometimes principles don't always serve us well what does it say about us if we abandon them when they aren't to our advantage? At a time when international terrorism is a big concern for our society we have to balance security against freedoms and finding that line is an incredible challenge, how much are we prepared to give up for our safety? To me that is a fascinating issue and I always come back to this quote. Although it only barely beats "Shut up Wesley!"
YOUR FAVOURITE STAR TREK SERIES
Deep Space Nine
Don't get me wrong I love The Next Generation but what just does it for me is the fact that in The Next Generation and actually most Star Trek shows it is far too easy to be 'the goodies'. The Federation always has limitless resources, everyone is always happy, there is no risk. With Deep Space Nine you have a cast of characters which have different agendas and immediately are in a more difficult situation, you also have the fact that because the show is primarily based in one place you feel their actions have more consequence, in the other shows the Enterprise (or Voyager) just warps off at the end of the episode and whatever they did becomes the problem of someone else, in Deep Space Nine they aren't going anywhere and I liked that because it made being good harder, their principles were really tested.
It's for that reason why I was really disappointed with Voyager as I was hoping that with finite crew and resources and a 70 year journey ahead of them they would be a bit more challenged when it came to their principles but despite having limited resources they could give everyone they met food and medical supplies even when they apparently didn't even have enough power for lights. Similar with Enterprise, in the first season they didn't know what they were doing and were relatively primitive when it came to technology but that changed far too quickly.
YOUR FAVOURITE STAR TREK VIDEOGAME
Birth of the Federation
I've always loved turn based strategy and was a big fan of BOTH of the Master of Orion games. A game where I can run any of the Star Trek major powers is pretty much the best Star Trek game I can think of. It had it's flaws but for me it was endless fun.
WHICH STAR TREK VIDEOGAMES YOU OWN
I think all but two of them which would be Star Trek: Conquest Online and Star Trek: Conquest. Weird that they both have such similar titles.

They are both great in their own ways and it's really hard to pick between them. I like that DS9 tried and succeeded in doing something very different with the Star Trek formula.
