Hello all! I've been browsing this site for a little while now, reading your excellent discussions/guides on STO and it sort of snowballed from there. :mrgreen:
I'm a big fan of the Star Trek Universe and have been playing STO for about a month. Technically I'm a level 60 Fleet Admiral but my goodness I still feel like a little newbie inside, all wide-eyed and bushy tailed. Just started fighting the Vaadwaur for the Kobali - all I can say is: "Ouch! Guess I gotta relearn everything I thought I knew."
I've been around gaming for a long time; started getting into MMOs around Everquest/Asheron's Call. That said, I see myself more as a casual gaming enthusiast, rather than a hardcore gamer. I play games for fun and don't take it too seriously. 
As you may have surmised from my avatar, I'm a big fan of DS9 and the Jadzia Dax character in particular. My main girl right now (not surprisingly) is a Trill Sci officer, although not a joined variant. I have also started a Klingon Engie and Romulan Tac - but they are barely out of their tutorials yet.
I live in New Zealand, which is lovely place, but a bit of a strange timezone. I'm online fairly regularly, though, at all sorts of hours, so feel free to pop me a hello in-game if you see me gadding about.
I'm a bit shy about using voice comms and have never used Teamspeak or progs like that. I hope that won't be an issue. Regular text chat is fine, though.
This went on longer than I'd planned....so, um, hi there! 
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone both in-game and on the forums.

TeamSpeak is by no means a requirement although you might want to give it a try, if you don't want to you don't have to actually speak on there as TeamSpeak allows for text chat as well as voice. It is of course entirely up to you but it tends to make things a little easier if you are taking part in an event as you can coordinate a little easier with those you are playing with.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome, I hope I can do the fleet proud. As for Teamspeak, I am not averse to using it to receive orders in a group situation, I'm just a wee bit uncomfortable talking myself, if that makes sense. I'd definitely be willing to give it a try, though.

You can use our Teamspeak to just listen and communicate via Text chat, microphones are not mandatory if you feel uncomfortable we can communicate via text, even during events! We even have a channel dedicated to text chat.

Welcome to the UFP! Its a great place for everything Star Trek - I only particularly like the DS9 storylines from the Dominion War as I think the first three series (particularly the first) a little awkward to watch at times!
