Well my capt. Is finally able to put some points into specializations. However I'll be honest I'm not sure how to proceed.

I'm an engineer. Level 50 at the moment. Any tips?

I personally say start with the Intelligence tree. Simply due to the fact that most of the traits in the intel tree are far superior to that of command or pilot.

Set Intelligence as your primary specialisation and Pilot as your secondary. You want to dump as main spec points into Intel until you get to Tier 4 and you can unlock the Intelligence Fleet ability.

This ability gives you a penetration bonus allowing you to ignore armour rating and bypass the shields and do direct hull damage similar to Directed Energy Modulation. If used in tandem you can pop enemy ships pretty quickly.

Also the intel tree gives you abilities like space flanking which is nice if can get behind your enemy, great help against the borg in STFs.

In conclusion Intel would be the ideal choice. Pilot is also nice to have as the secondary because you get RockNRoll at Tier 2 which when activated makes you invincible for about 3-4 seconds nice if you are in a bit of pickle.

I like to start with Commando because it makes you much more effective on the ground, but if you don't like ground much then go with Intel.

I wouldn't do Pilot or Commando first, because Intel and Command affect both Space and Ground, and should be of better general utility.

I did this, only moved to Pilot to get the roll because I was sick of flying away in CCA :p

How do you spot the flanking side of a cube and spheres?

As the cube and sphere are based on 3D geometric shapes, really you shouldn't be able to.

Just fly around the cube or sphere until you see "Flank" appear in your damage floaters.

Then shoot that side.

On the targeting info in your HUD, the target icon will also have a little triangle at one of the four compass points. Get that triangle in the South position and you're flanking, blast away.

I was debating in what to do myself. I thought maybe going with command due to some of the skills you get in there I like. But reading this about Intel makes me want to reconsider. Especially the go pass shields part hehe.

Is there activity you can do to farm lvls for spec pts? There was a thread I read on the sto forums talking about redoing a delta patrol for xp, but later in the thread it said it was nerfed. Some people were boasting they got all their pts already due to that patrol. (Argala)

Argala and all other stuff that actually gave good xp was heavily nerfed at the beginning. You could get like 1 level in 15 minutes of Argala in the beginning before the nerf.

Right now, I do not know the best way but it should still be Delta Patrols that give out a good chunk of xp. Supplement that with Doff'ing (which was nerfed heavily too after Delta rising...) you can get a good pace.

Also make sure that you grab the Weekly extra box from the featured missions each week because that one gives 1 Spec point too.

Unfortunately Cryptic decided that getting spec points has to be a general affair of boring as hell repeating missions. Instead of awarding nice xp for elite stf and other content.

But they need to show their overlords with their metrics that people LOVE DELTA RISING and all play delta rising content.... so they nerfed every xp other than delta patrols.

TBH personally after the Argala nerf I stopped actively pursuing spec points. I just do the content I like (Doffing and Elite STF mostly and some Story missions) and with time I get the spec points slowly.

But that is much better than grinding Delta Patrols the whole day (kinda defeats the purpose of a game for me, I want to relax from work and not do more WORK for hours and hours ^^)

What you can also do if you have some Story mssions you havent done is to save them all up and turn em in once there is another double xp week-end.

And if you have too much EC you can buy exp boosters on the exchange that help a little bit (but in my opinion they are just overpriced junk)

I hope a new specialization comes soon. I have already 15 excess spec points and all trees filled.
Btw some of the best XP gains you get from Red Alerts in Sector Space -> Tholian > Borg.
