A favourite pastime for many Trek fans is to ask each other the following question: Which Captain is your favourite? So, despite the fact this topic has cropped up multiple times over the years, I thought we could each discuss the Captains of Trek. What I want to know is:

• Which Captain is your favourite? Why?
• What makes them stand out from the others?
• Which of the Captains is the most well rounded?

You don't necessarily have to pick one of the main Captains pictured above, your choice doesn't even have to be limited to Starfleet Captains. Hopefully we'll get some interesting responses!

Favourite Captain: Picard

Why? What makes them stand out: I like the way Picard always tries to find a diplomatic solution to the majority of problems that he and his crew face, and only uses force as a last option. Even then, he uses constraint and not necessarily lethal force. But, when push comes to shove, he has shown that he is perfectly capable of fighting back hard.

Most Well Rounded: I think Sisko is probably the most well rounded, since he is Commander of both a Ship and a Station, a peace and a wartime Captain.

I think Janeway has to be my favorite captain.
She feels the more humanised character out of the lot. She has made mistakes and sometimes dwells on them from time to time, she has a very relatable backstory, including her fiancee "Mark" and her dog "Mollie" who she misses dearly in the first few seasons and has to accept the fact that her fiancee has moved on under the impression she was dead, she has her best friend Tuvok who she holds very close.

But when it comes to being the Captain of a ship, she is very laid back in peace time but when things get serious, she will tighten the chain of command, she is a good tactician and is someone not to be threatened.
But no matter what, she always has a deep empathy for her crew and over time they all become a close family due to their situation.

Captain Picard, no contest. Dignified, wise, the most powerful telepath on the planet, who doesn't like Professor Xavier?

Janeway has always been my favourite captain, she leads a crew in poor circumstances while upholding the values of the Federation, with the possibility of never returning home, it kept her and the crew more, sane. She could be tough and devious when warranted, but most of the time, just tried to make sure everyone was doing well. She had some great moments as well, but no where near as many memorable speeches as Picard. Picard is my second favourite and it is very close between the two.

But I would say Janeway is also the most well rounded of the captains, she seems to have a bit from each of the main captains, Picard was more a strict captain early on, Sisko took greater risks and Kirk did a lot of fighting/flirting, Archer I don't care about. Janeway held many traits in a lesser extent of all of those, she just seemed to balance a lot of everything, but really, in the situation Voyager is in, you need a bit of everything.

Picard without a doubt! He is wise, honest, understanding and not afraid to make tough decisions. One of my all time favorite quotes comes from First Contact:

"The line must be drawn here! This far! No Further! and I will make them PAY for what they've done!"

I always liked Riker when he was in charge. Good captain material.

Kirk. The answer i always give. Why? Because.

If i were to answer fully, because he is Kirk, charismatic, always gets the girl, not afraid of a fight, not politically correct, and...did i mention, always gets the girl?

Janeway is my favorite, she's very down to earth and doesn't take crap from anyone. And we share an obsession for coffee . She does whatever it takes to protect her crew and doesn't back down from her values unless the situation demand it.

Most well rounded to me is Picard, he's seasoned, wise, prideful, sense of humor, works hard and plays hard. He's more then just a Captain, a mentor, friend and wants those under his command to succeed and live up to their full potential. And he's a great father figure even though he claims not to do well with children.

It's a tough choice between Janeway and Archer. Both are very protective of their crew and ship, both are willing to break the rules to get the job done and both have proven to be complete bad asses if the situation gets rough. I have never liked people that just blindly follow orders or rules without considering the consequences. Also they both have a Vulcan crewman that keeps them in check when they go a bit too far.

He is tough, yet willing to listen to reason when called for. He is also very loyal to his allies.
What makes them stand out from the others?
His ability to stay true to who he is, yet accept change when it shows to be beneficial.
Which of the Captains is the most well rounded?
James T. Kirk, no doubt. Lover, fighter, diplomat, good sense of humor, loyal to Starfleet.
