CBS/Paramount is suing Star Trek Axanar. I hope someone organize have Star Trek Beyond. From the Trailer it looks like its going to suck anyway.

This is ridiculous, whether Axanar goes ahead or not a vast majority of Trek fans will still go and see Beyond. They should be grateful that the fans still want more Trek, it keeps Trek alive and allows CBS/Paramount to make even more money with their reboots. If the fans lose interest in Trek then they'll go somewhere else, thats bad news for the big companies. Hell, if Axanar turns out to be a success then hire them.

Typical behaviour from CBS and Paramount... stamping on creativity because they know that Star Trek Beyond is going probably going to bomb at the box office unlike AXANAR which is totally crowdfunded has the same level of production value as Beyond with a much smaller budget!
I have a feeling that this suit is directly related to the fact that Beyond comes out this year and most likely AXANAR as well...kinda of like "This universe ain't big enough for the 3 of us."

I was really sad when I saw this come up in my news feed; I had hoped that CBS/Paramount would continue it's 'benign neglect' when it comes to this kind of production and just let the magic happen.
I personally don't think Beyond will bomb at the box office: Between the die-hards that will go to anything with 'trek' on the title, new fans generated by these films (And yes they exist) to those who would just go see any sort of scifi actiony thing that hits the theatre, the'll make money.
But certainly not Star Wars money.
I can't help but watch Lucas' recent bitter diatribe, hear him say roughly that he wouldn't make a film like this, and that this one for the fans, and I find myself laughing.
Can you imagine if they truly made a Trek film for the fans like that? Still might not make Star Wars money, but I suspect it'd be a helluva lot higher than Beyond/Into/JJ/Nemsis/Insurection were.
I think Axanar is closer to that. I hope they win this easily. I hope it does come out and it does show everything we want in a Star Trek production.
Maybe then the lesson will sink in.
