You may have seen that after you submitted Roll Call, you had a survey to fill out and put in any comments, I am going to focus on those which relate to events. Each of the gaming divisions who had a separate category will be posting out their responses in the respective sections, so look out for those in the coming days!

I don't take part as there aren't any for the games I play

That's a shame, if you wouldn't mind sending me a PM as to which games you play that you would like to see events for, I will see if there is anything we can do to organise something. Remember that in Holodeck forum, you can discuss any game which we don't support events for as well. But if you have ideas, please let me know!

The more the merrier

I agree, the more events we have, the better! And preferably, the wider the selection of games.

Reserves events????? Come on Marcus, I know you only wanted the position to try and get CL5 bit at least pretend to play the reserves games. But quite seriously, Marcus and Solace's handling on Reserves is a spit in the face to Reserves long history. Get rid of them and wind down the old girl.

I can't speak for Marcus or for the Reserves as a whole, however I am sure that if you have a concern and any suggestions, they can be implemented to the area. Reserves is a very tricky area as there can sometimes be a lack of participation, but if you have a serious complaint, I urge you to contact me directly and let me know, I would sincerely hope no ones intentions are to try and force themselves into a higher position! People are selected on merit and their contributions, those who just seek power will be disappointed as they are less likely to be selected, we need volunteers who put the community first!

Also good to hear! The more people enjoy them, the better and I'm sure it makes the event officers feel good for hosting them.

There needs to be more events to accommodate people who live outside of the common time zones (Europe and east coast NA). I live in Mountain Standard Time and my schedule always has me missing the events by an hour or two.

We make every effort to try and support multiple timezones across the world, however it's not an easy task, we need people who are willing to host events for others to sign up and volunteer a small portion of their time to helping out with event coverage. You can check for all open positions here or if the position isn't listed, submit your interest with this form.

Great! They do put a lot of time into what they do and their efforts are appreciated, not just by their own command staff but those around them too.

I'm sure Marcus won't mind if I issue an apology from both myself and Marcus regarding the handling on the way Reserves is currently being run. We are very open to feedback and always looking to improve. If it is felt that we not holding the Reserves best interests at heart please let us know and we will try our very best to improve in anyway we can!

Marcus has a plan for Reserves and something I fully agree with, he felt that Reserves needs a new lease of life while bringing something new. We are focusing on doing this one step at a time making sure we are adding to the legacy of Reserves and not tarnishing it.

Regarding the feedback on the Reserves, I know both Three and Solace have already responded to it but I would just like to stress that the Reserves is called the Reserves for good reason, it supports older games that these days have far less popularity than other games we support. Obviously that doesn't mean we shouldn't support them to the best of our abilities but it does need to be kept in mind.

Whoever gave the feedback is clearly very passionate about the Reserves and that is great, my question to whoever gave that feedback would be are you willing to use that passion to help the Reserves? Please accept Three's invitation to discuss your feedback and please do see if you can help contribute, I'm sure both Marcus and Solace would be more than willing to discuss with you any ideas you have and I think it is only fair that they be given that chance.

I would like to clarify however, we haven't stopped supporting the old Trek titles, We're bringing back Elite Force Frag Nights with some hopefully welcome new spins on the event. We're also looking to start hosting RPG-X roleplay events. I grew up with older Trek titles as did many of us and they hold a special place in our hearts.

I always had a sweet spot for Elite Force it had some great CTF maps, I think a lot of it was due to the symmetry of the maps. Bridge Commander was another great one for the ship to ship combat, although it did have some balance issues..

I do love them both dearly.

As an outsider, if I may, I think one of your biggest issues is going to be distribution. I mean that in the sense that the games are very difficult to get ahold of these days. To use an example if you look on Amazon both Elite Force and Bridge Commander are going for about £15 used. For someone that has never played the games, £15 for a 14 year old game may be a bit of an ask.

Having said that I can see you are offering Elite Force as a download link, which is amazing.

My suggestion for what its worth would be putting together some sort of guide you can give out to members as to where you can get the game, how to install it, configure it (especially if compatibility issues are of concern) - maybe with some reviews of some of the older gamers who played it with UFP as to why they enjoyed it to 'sell' it to the fleet.

I would love it if you could get it going again, part of the reason I don't want to play STO is just the sheer time investment needed. If you can get past the graphics these games are great for short term dipping in and out playing.

I would like to take this oppertunity to respond to the comment above, as it is directed both at me personally and at the way I've taken on my role as Supervising Officer of the Reserves.

First the personal comment. I've been in charge of the Reserves for about half a year now and have yet to discover any desirable merits that come with the rank, other than being in a position to set out the way we want to try and keep classic Trek games as available as possible to our members.
I think anyone taking a rank just because of personal glorification will soon be sorely dissapointed and won't hold the position for very long.
I intend to stay on for as long as I may and continue to develop the Reserves in order to give it a secure and meaningful future in the UFP.
I admit that I might not have the extensive knowledge of all the old Trek titles that some of my predecessors had, but I do have just about all of the classic Trek titles in my collection and quite a few of them are installed. I like to play some more than others, but I think all of us have our favorite type of game that we like to play.
I hope this clears up any questions about my competence to lead the Reserves to a new and hopefully sustainable future.

Before I took on the role of SO I spent quite time going through the Reserves forum to learn more about what I was going to get myself into.
I soon realized that the task was pretty daunting. In recent years quite a few substantial UFP members had done their best to try and get the Reserves up and running again, but despite all their time and hard effort, activity didn't really pick up. So much so that the Reserves was demoted from being a full division. Quite a few members were (and still are) very passionate about the Reserves and were sad to see what was once an important part of the UFP with such a rich history slowly slip away.

After I let this sink in, I realized that simply picking up where these members had left off and repeating what they had already tried wasn't going to get me or the Reserves anywhere. I decided that in order to survive and keep offering our members this service the Reserves must evolve.
This meant in first restart fase focusing our resources on those titles that members want to play and finding ways to breath new interest into this gaming niche within the UFP. One of the 'new ways' I've recently discussed with Three of Seven would be to expand the Reserves' charter to allow it to support quality Star Trek Mods such as Star Trek Armada 3 as well as the classic trek games AND to let the Reserves support those new Trek game titles that the FEO deemed not eligable for a dedicated divsion. By doing so the Reserves would eventually evolve into a place where all Trek games that don't have their own division could be supported, thus giving the Reserves a new lease of life.
I did say expand the Reserves charter, which means we won't be deserting our original objectives: the support of the classic Trek titles. But let's face it: most of our members our quite busy playing STO or other much more recent games. Only a select few of our members still want to play the really old Trek titles. The attendance numbers to the events we have put up this past half year prove that.
So I want to use the needs of our members as a kind of a compass to sort out which classic Trek games we should devote more of our time and effort to. Basically: the more members that want to play a certain game, the more often we'll try to set up an event. This also works the other way: if we've set up an event a few times and had little or no attendance, then we will focus our limited resources on titles that are more in demand.
In order to make the older Trek titles as accessible as possible my staff and I have spent quite a bit of time updating the Game Instructions on the Reserves forum. We've also been testing new: patches, multiplayer options, Trek game mods, graphic settings in Windows 8 and 10 and a lot more.
Just to keep the old games up and running as best as we can on new operating systems.

So, that's my plan for the Reserves.

We're still looking for Tactical Officiers with expertise in any classic Trek titles!
It would really be an awesome boost if old-Reserve members would be willing to help us out with a little of their time and expertise, especially concerning the recent request of a few members for the return of a RPG setup!
