Having just screened Star Trek Horizon at the UFP Film Night, I thought it might be good to start a discussion thread where those who attended the event and any other interested UFP members could come together to discuss this fan-film.
What did you think of Star Trek Horizon? How does it compare to other fan productions? Was the acting convincing? Would you like to see a sequel?

The blooper reel is pretty interesting to watch also. I was surprised about how much of it is edited in, there's hardly anything physical. Must be difficult to act like that sometimes. Kudos to their imaginations.
and this!

I only got to see the final third.
From what I saw it looked quite good. The biggest criticisms I would have are all a result of the limited budget, some of the effects didn't blend in well, the lack of physical sets and some of the camera and lighting work.
None of that really detracted from the storytelling but could be a bit jarring which doesn't help with being drawn in to the experience. Given the budget they had and the story they wanted to tell these things would always have been issues and they did do well with what they had to work with.

I'm surprised how much was edited in also. However I would love to see a sequel, I will try and remain spoiler free for those who have not watched the fan film yet. It was a very good story, it neatly tied up alot of loose ends left over after the cancellation of Enterprise. I would like to see more physical props if they do a sequel, sometimes the movements looked odd, but I can forgive as it was a purely non-profit enterprise. (See what I did there? )
It just goes to show that CBS and Paramount seem to have lost the understanding of Star Trek is and fan films like these that are true to established timeline and universe can create amazing and incredible new stories that are worthy of Star Trek itself. If you haven't seen Horizon, I seriously recommend you watch it.

Despite the sometimes-dodgy camera effects, I still believe that the visual effects and CGI (especially planetary) are top-shelf Hollywood-grade stuff. And no, not just the ship-shots, jeez.

I thought it was quite good - considering its a fan production, and my last experience with a fan production was Star Wreck: In the Pirkinging.
Naturally, there were flaws - but given what they had to work with and what they managed to pull off in the end, I thought it was a really good effort. Okay, sure, the uniforms didn't look quite right (something about those collars really annoyed me). Also, the Compression Rifle looked far more advanced than the ones they were using on Deep Space Nine. Hell, even the Tricobalt Torpedoes (a quaint essential plot piece) was a bit out of character for the time period.
Some of the acting was incredibly wooden and stiff, and I really didn't bond with any of the main characters at all. The Chief Engineer was desperately trying to be Trip Tucker - right down to his prejudice and hatred of outsider crew. The Chief Tactical Officer looked like he was about to draw a pension, and the Science Officer knew less about science than I do.
However, the visual effects... wow... I mean seriously... wow. I was in love with almost all the sweeping shots of the NX, and the space scenes were amazing. The casual way they threw the Enterprise in there was pretty neat as well - and I'm really happy with how it all came together.
I think an 8/10 is a very reasonable score to give this film, given everything both positive and negative about it. I certainly think there's room for a squeal, and its one of the only ENT productions I've ever seen, so I'm really happy with it. I would definitely recommend it.
I'd be delighted to offer any advice I have on understanding women. When I have some, I'll let you know.

I love the fact they've gone for it and it's great quality for a fan film however it'll never make me want to watch it twice which makes me cry a little on the inside :-(

That acting was a bit choppy to start with, but it seemed to get better for most of the actors through the film. It is defiantly one of the better fan films for Star Trek that there is out there!
