That episode was 100 out of 10. No joke. It actually might make my top 10 in all of star trek.

Agree, this one knocked it out of the park. Saru just keeps getting better with his little comments. I actually want a Pike series because he's rocking that role. Tig Notaro continues to play my favourite character and I really hope that they retain her services. That bit about Prince really cracked me up and her battle of words with Stamets was great to see. Saru's storyline really pulled at the heartstrings too and we got to see some real emotion from Burnham for a change. The part when the bridge crew all stood up as Saru left, not a dry eye in this house.
My only niggle, and it's such an inconsequential one, is that this series is starting to feel like Star Trek Discovery: The Search for Spock. They've teased Spock in every episode so far (OK, we're only on episode 4) that I'm hoping that the new guys performance is stellar and not all hype.

Was a really well done episode, reminded me so much of classic Trek, but still had that modern flare the shows always maintained. Also, man Mr. Mount is just rocking it as Captain Pike, really bringing the character to life for me. Can't wait to see where things go next.

Rather boring and uninteresting, if Saru would have really died the show would have been over.

I really liked this episode, it gave me the feels when I thought Saru was about to die. The whole thing with his ganglia falling off and everything we know about Kelpians being a lie really turned Saru’s story on its head and I’m interested to see where that goes.
I really liked the whole scene with Reno and Stamets Really cracked me up. Also the whole space booger, I mean “May” thing with Discovery actually destroying the Mycelial ecosystem everytime it jumps feels like its going in the direction of the Spore Drive being taken out of comission and feels like a plausible way out for whole tech. Still I want to know what its plans are for Tilly.
Overall, really enjoyed this one.

I've bene a defender of the Spore Drive existing mainly because the amount of times the Federation Transwarp Drive was mentioned after ST3 was a total of 0.

they paved way to remove both Spore drive AND the Holo comms tech tbh. and done it better than last episode by giving 1 line explainations..

Awesome episode.
- The line from Pike about hating the holo-comm system and from now on using viewscreens was a cool touch to explain the different tech on the Enterprise from TOS. Seems to me that almost everything that people have complained about being different (Klingon hair, Klingon ship designs, holograms, uniforms) are all being explained rather well and logically.
- Nice to get an episode with some real exploration and a big space-borne entity trying to communicate and messing things up is classic Trek (V'ger, Whale Probe, Tin Man etc.).
- Saru's story just got a whole lot darker now that we (and him & Burnham) have found out his species was being manipulated and "used" in a way by whoever those nebulous bad guys abducting them are. Seems the Kelpians are supposed to undergo some sort of evolution and become more than just space cattle, but someone is holding them back. Are they being hamstrung because they were/are potentially a threat to this other species? Is is some form of subjugation that started a long time ago by an invading group?
- I guess we now have a fairly good idea of why the spore drive is no longer in existence after DSC. It's similar to the VOY plot with the Equinox and their use of aliens from another dimension for fuel. SF can hardly allow the system to continue in use as long as it effectively destroys another dimension and ecosystem.
- Burnham seems to be getting a bit less "know it all" and the rest of the crew are getting more exposure which is nice (oh look a new doctor!).
My only nitpick is i'm getting a bit tired of "hunt the Spock" each week. It's interesting he's linked to the Red Angel but the lack of forward movement in his direct story is getting a bit tiresome and we're now 4 episodes in. Plus short of Burnham killing his pet dog I fail to see what she could have done that would make them so unlikely to get along ever again.

I am looking foward to see them explaining how the DISCO Enterprise is 50% larger than the TOS Enterprise
That one is easy, the Enterprise in TOS was way too small for 430+ people and the size of the sets. The 208 stated in The Cage made much more sense for a 289 meter ship but the set sizes were still way to big.
Star Trek ship sizes and scales have never been consistent...Discovery is at least doing that much.

... I'm not following you... Disco-prise is actually smaller...
The USS Enterprise in Star Trek Discovery is 442 Meters
