On a side note, Neverwinter has been giving away free stuff for the last six weeks, not just the crappy uncommon items but things that would normally be in the Z-store. They didn't put it behind a two week grind either.

This became an even easier "pass" for me. The T'liss design is my least favorite Rom ship design. If it had ended up being a Scimitar or D'Deridex I might have considered it for a second before realizing what else I can do with $60 or piles of dilithium.

They did say outright in stream, these sorts of bundles leverage content for KDF and Romulans. We want more stuff for them? Play Romulan Content, play KDF content when Year of the Klingon starts. Buy Klingon ships, if they see its worth investing then more of that stuff comes.

After the legendary pack, I swore there'd be no dough into the Cryptic kitty from my pockets again and thus far, I've held to that. In a bit of a twist, I stopped playing properly a couple weeks later and I've still not returned to it other than to do the event thing currently running.

STO to me is sliding increasingly towards methods you'd expect to see in a mobile game. It has always been something of a cash cow, but now more than ever is it being milked. If you want the ship and such, fair play to you, not going to hold that against anyone as it's your money. This one's not for me though (even if I did like the new toy, though I don't) and I think it's very poor value for money in the current climate.

They could do with taking a few lessons from SWTOR. The F2P restrictions on it are quite harsh to the point it's far more worth your while to just subscribe, but they've got their in-game shop and there's not one item in there that could be considered pay to win or would even alter the balance between 2 players slightly, even after 8 years.

I'm feeling the same way, Petrarch, I haven't played in any meaningful way in months, and I uninstalled it this morning. Their monetization practices as of late has killed the game for me.

Hopefully this is less about a general strategy shift and more about the temporary COVID-19 impact on Cryptic. Normally we'd have some new episode missions to break up the grind of new stuff to buy and events running old content into the ground. It has been months since new content like that has even been teased though, and all the Year of Klingon has hinted at is a facelift of old Klingon stuff so far. Needed, but not exactly the fresh new content the game also needs.

I don't think that the Kung Flu harmed Cryptic, I mean I returned to STO because of it and at least according to the zone chats, many new player who probably spend at least some money.
It's probably to get more people to play Romulan to then justify releaseing more Warbirds... Same goes for the "Year of the Klingon"... What's the ratio? 90% play Fed as main?

Still... 60-120 Bucks? Yeah... Subtract a zero and we'll talk...
