I was reading a reddit post the other day where someone was asking if space battles in STO were too arcadey. Many people agreed it was. So I was thinking, is there anything one can do to possibly slow down space combat to play, idk, maybe a bit more like starfleet command? Any tricks one can employ (seeing as how its obvious the game intends on it being arcadey anyway)?

Hey Proteus,
Sadly that is an integral part of game design and usually set during the early development. That kind of work would be akin to designing a whole new game. Its the fundamental way STO is played.
There are however some things you as a player can do. Change your playstyle to be similar to how you would play SFC 3. You can play this game however you like, but the basic way you play this game will remain the same.

If you don't already do so, keybinds can save you a lot of "whack-a-mole" button mashing. Certain build styles can be more forgiving for piloting, such as a beam FAW build or a sciboat build where you drop a gravity well and let everything get sucked in to one spot. Otherwise, as Solace said it is what it is.
