There we have it, STO is changing hands again. Be interesting to see if this will change the money grabbing practices of the last several years or if it'll just continue as is in the long term.

Just been reading sold to Gearbox Entertainment same studio that do Outlanders, Saints Row, Darksiders, Metro and Goat Simulator plus many others

Depends on what Gearbox decides to do, PWE/Cryptic may end up like the other studio's under embracer mostly independent doing whatever day to day stuff. on the flip side Gearbox may decide to go full hands on with their two new IPs (STO Neverwinter) then most likely there will be some change now would this change be for good or ill only time will tell sooner or later time will tell.

The most intriguing part will be the loot and lock boxes hijinks STO and Neverwinter get up too, Embracer is a EU based and stuffed entity and with the EU block being twitchy about predatory loot and lock box practices interesting days may be ahead if they clamp down hard on said boxes

Also, we will see what the future brings for sto, maybe improvement, maybe not, only time will tell.

Well.. that certainly is news. On one hand we now have Randy Pitchford and the other.. we’ll have to to wait see. Gearbox has a history of dodgy business practices so I’m not about to jump for joy.

Maybe we’ll see STO 2 out of this or a bigger dev team for Cryptic

Bit more info - they've bought out PWE's US business as well, so it's not just Cryptic by itself.

Some related info: Embracer Group announced agreements to acquire four other companies today. In addition to PWE, they're also acquiring gaming studio Shiver Entertainment, animation studio DIGIC, video on demand channel network Spotfilm Networx, and Dark Horse Media.
