So Discord quietly integrated Clips into the program without making it super obvious.

Its got to be activated to use and you also gotta activate the kb for it to take the clip i have not used it as of yet i knew it was now part of Discord but thought it was part of the Full Nitro Sub pack and it only works i think when streaming

Nothing new it gives you a pop up.
Kinda like ts3 that said. A user in your channel has started recording
This is part of the screen sharing. So ppl can clip like on twitch

yeah it's been there for a while
and it asked me every time if I want to turn on clipping when I streamed
so a bit of a misleading alarm

not really sure how much of a drama this really is supposed to be.

It's a new feature that just includes your voice for the duration of the clip. The one that screen shares a. needs to actively enable clipping and b. the streamer is the only one who can do a clip. Every member in the voice channel gets a notification about the stream having clipping enabled and that you may be recorded. Also you can just disable your voice in the settings for clips.

So once again, I am not sure why really drama is made about unannounced privacy?! changes.

It's still a Beta feature so obviously Discord has not announced it. Discord announces new features whenever it is ready and not yet while in development.

So essentially what I also said last night over it when we were talking over on Discord over it then. Like I said it's been about a few months now but it's a feature that you have to enable and set key bind combos to use. it's worth giving a heads-up over in case anyone doesn't know about it but it's not something they are forcing you to use.

The problem is that it is turned on by default. Article 25 of the GDPR clearly states that default settings in applications have to be data privacy FRIENDLY for the user. So it should be turned off by default with the option to turn it on manually by the user.

Obviously that actually only applies to users covered by GDPR, i.e. EU users.

That's true, hopefully it extends to all users but who knows.

Had another discussion today over this as I saw another post elsewhere from Mentioned User Phoenix

They have added an option that allows you to choose to allow your voice to be recorded in the clip this is on by default so if you are a cautious and concerned person then make sure that you turn it off

I Have not tested to see if it does record you but the descriptions indicates it does
