    Today’s Episode was a great way to introduce how the new XO is much different from the previous ones Discovery has had.

    What we were used to, what we can expect, and hopefully how the characters develop on discovery. Maybe we can keep Tilly longer as well?

    Agreed with what Jcarrillo said, strange that Rayner got a demotion, I figured he would retain the rank of Captain like Saru did.

    But you can see that he's starting to realise what it takes to be a good XO.

    Yeah, bringing Rayner to Discovery feels a bit forced. I made the comment last week that Rayner reminded me of Lorca, and I think that still fits. He's much more formal and militaristic than anyone on Discovery, which undoubtedly something meant to push the overall narrative at various points this season. The reduction in rank seems like a token slap on the hand, particularly since rank doesn't really seem to mean much of anything at the end of the day with Discovery's leadership (e.g., Booker isn't even Starfleet but is again central to most of the action so far for the 3rd season running now). I still think he will be an interesting character, but other than portraying him as Sherlock-esque in his ability to read people, I don't know that we got much out of him this week.

    Otherwise, this episode was decent if mostly more low key than the action heavy 2 episode opening of last week.
