I thought it might be nice to create the inaugural thread of the 602 club, where we discuss the future of Star Trek.
For me, if I'm interpreting the situation correctly (based on what actors have said in interviews and other rumours/gossip), Star Trek may return to the TV screen after the third JJ universe movie finishes its rounds, so we're looking at 2016-2017.
No one knows though in what era a new TV series could take place. It could be in the JJ universe or it could be in the traditional universe. What I would put money on though, is that any new series would of course use the 'modern' techniques used in sci-fi series these days. Anyone who has watched the fan made "Prelude to Axanar" will likely know what I mean.
There has been talk of a TV series based around the USS Titan, as well as a series based around Captain Worf, but so far it appears CBS are happy to keep giving Star Trek a rest on the small screen. (It is unlikely that Star Trek would never return to the small screen given its worldwide appeal).
What are peoples thoughts on the future of Star Trek? Would do you think it would return as?

With the internet, there should be no borders with producing shows, Netflix has shown that by producing their own original series, which have proven successful. It would be great to see CBS team up with a streaming service to produce a new series, there would be nothing to stop them putting it on TV/DVD as well at a later date, as not everyone does streaming and some like to collect DVDs.
I would love to see a new show, either based after Voyager somehow or fill in any missing gaps, there are books that can be used to create shows but the actors have aged by now, so it would have to take place after they were on screen otherwise you end up with These are the Voyagers from Enterprise, which had various flaws to it
What I don't want to see is a series based on JJ Trek, that wouldn't be enjoyable to me.

It would be nice to see a new show but I would much prefer it take place in the Prime universe rather than the JJverse.
I think a Titan TV show would be too expensive. The USS Titan has the most diverse crew of any ship in Federation history and a good number of the crew aren't humanoid. That would mean lots and lots of make up and prosthetics and lots of CGI crew. I'll still purchase and eat a hat if CBS commissions a show called 'Captain Worf'.
Something filling in the gap between the TOS movies and TNG might be a nice idea. Lots of big events happened over the years and there were two Enterprises active during that period (the B and the C). That would also cut costs since they don't need to worry so much about new ship designs, costumes, sets etc.

I am a bit surprised CPS hasn't done anything with Star Trek lately. With so many fan projects popping out of the woodwork (and good ones that that, with good money spent on real sound stages and costumes with some professional actors), it should be obvious that there is some demand for it.
I wish that the rumors of Netlifx picking up a 5th season of Enterprise had turned out to be true; I know Enterprise wasn't the best show, but it was starting to get reasonably good in season 3 and 4, and TNG Ds9 and Voyager had bad first seasons and second seasons littered with bad episodes, so Enterprise wasn't that out of the ordinary.
I highly doubt this Captain Worf thing will ever pan out.
What I would really like to see is a series covering the time period between the last TOS movie and TNG. Plenty of stories to tell there; it's a large gap of missing time. It also wouldn't be a bad thing to me to see some Star Trek movies that don't follow the crews we have seen (oh sure a DS9 or Voyager movie could be interesting, but I think their time has passed). There's still room after Voyager and the TNG movies ended, and before TOS. Seeing the Axanar production has got me thinking how much I would like to see something on the Earth-Romulan War

This.
I think JJ would be fun, but we'd all be sick of flare and explosions and unrealistic jumps on hovercars too fast. All the other series' crews have come and gone, if you ask me. So something new and fresh would be fun, thus my agreement with the above.
While it would be crazy and hectic, a very future show might be nice (10-50 years after STO, or later). But that might be a bit far-fetched. I think going in between TOS/TNG has the most powerful story-telling capability. As long as they don't try to re-write history and/or do too much time traveling.

CBS hasn't done jacksquat with the ST property, personally I wish CBS would sell the IP to Disney. Look how awesome the new SW 3d animated shows are. I want to see ST for a new generation in the same way. I'm not part of the old guard so for me I see this with the perspective of someone that grew up during the "Dark ages of ST" ie watching reruns in Netflix.
All I see with ST right now is wasted potential, and while I'm not a fan of JJ Trek at least it's keeping Trek alive within the public consciousness.

I personally would love a Star Trek Show based around the Klingons, rather than another show about federation ships and crew. Klingons have such high potential and even though they have been part of the shows I feel there is more potential there if a fully run series based on a Klingon crew would happen.

I afraid that because of what happened with Enterprise and how that failed CBS is afraid to do another series. But I think Klingon or Romulan based show would be cool to watch and see Star trek universe in a different Light.

I completely agree about CBS. They don't seem to have the slightest idea about what to do with the property besides make some money by selling it to streaming services such as Netflix. Star Trek is probably the biggest IP that CBS owns, I can't believe that they are just happy to sit there and not do anything with it.
What really doesn't help is how the rights are split between CBS and Paramount, it has led to no end of issues because the two seem to never be able to agree on anything, it's a bit like Marvel and Sony.
If Disney were to ever get their hands on Star Trek then you could guarantee that there would be lots of new Star Trek everything. Disney are the masters of milking their IP in a win-win manner, they make themselves a shed load of money and their customers get high quality products that they actually want. If Disney were to ever get their hands on Star Trek my biggest concern would be them wanting to put out an animated Star Trek that is intended for a younger audience rather than a new live action series. I can't see Disney buying the rights though at least not in the short term, Paramount are raking in the money with the JJ films so won't want to sell up and CBS are as clueless as ever.

At the moment I feel as long as its prime universe i'll be happy. I would like for it to have some form of deeper meaning, teaching of some kind. Though with the way television is going I could imagine it to be just cheap action and some dullingly boring sex. Peh, i'm a cynic after all.
(many of you know what I feel about JJ Trek, so I won't bother boring you with another rant)

That would be a very specialised series though, some people might not be able to get into it without knowing the history, granted it could get them into some of the older Trek shows. Personally though, I wouldn't want to watch a Klingon show

I read rumors of a Captain Worf TV show set after the events of the Dominion war. If that was true I would love to watch that. I did enjoy the new JJ trek but there is just something about the original Trek universe that I want to keep seeing and enjoying as it continues on into the future.

Yes there's been rumors of such a TV show for a while now, there was a story back on the 9th August where Micheal Dorn talked about the script being completed.
Although most of the information in the article is from 2013 it's still pretty interesting.

I don't think Captain Work will ever see official support from Paramount. Sadly, to me it just feels like Michael Dorn's personal character agenda realized more than anything else. That's just an observation though I'm not criticising him. Who wouldn't want to see their character elevated to a more prominent role in the larger universe? Cryptic made him an ambassador to the Federation in STO.
I don't know the man personally, but he does seems to have odd interactions with fans from time to time and chooses not to participate in many of the endeavors of his cast mates. For example, I was disappointed to see him shun efforts to support Burton's reading rainbow kickstarter rewards. Meanwhile, Spiner, Stewart and others all pitched in to help.
