    Greetings everybody!

This short guide will cover how to parse your DPS in Star Trek Online and the tools for parsing your DPS. Using the tools you can start finding ways to improve your DPS This guide will be spilt into five sections:
    • STO Combat Meter
    • SCM Explained
    • Log File Management
    • Useful Keybinds
    • Step by step guide on using SCM
    STO Combat Meter
The Star Trek Online Combat Meter or SCM is the official DPS reader used by the official DPS channels & leagues. The DPS channels are spilt into different categories depending on achieving DPS milestones. For example: 10K DPS, 30K DPS, 50K DPS, 75K DPS and 100+K DPS.

The DPS channels are spilt into these categories to encourage people to try and climb higher on the DPS league to try and make it to the top of the list. Some of our resident members like Britsurfer and Ross have already achieved over 100K DPS in ISA runs.

You can download SCM by clicking -HERE-

    SCM FAQ -HERE-
    SCM Explained
This section of the guide will detail how to use the SCM combatlog reader.

    Firstly the basics:
In order to create a combat log you must first use the "/CombatLog 1" command in Star Trek Online to create a combatlog. However you must enter combat to create the actual log. Once you have dealt damage or received damage repeat the command again but the change the "1" to "0" like this: "/CombatLog 0".

When you want to record your DPS you MUST use the commands above at the start and end of the mission. For example ISA is the most popular STF for DPS runs. Use "/CombatLog 1" at the start of the mission and "/CombatLog 0" at the end of the mission.

Your combat log will stored in the game files in this location if you use Steam:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online\Live\logs\GameClient\Combatlog.log"

    If you use ARC:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Perfect World Entertainment\Star Trek Online_de\Star Trek Online\Live\logs"

    Log File Management

This section contains a few useful commands that you can use when parsing your DPS. Currently when parsing your DPS the game creates a file called Combatlog.log that is used by SCM to read your DPS numbers from a recorded run. Typically STO creates lots of these log files and it can seriously bloat your install size.

Thankfully there is a way to overcome this! By putting the following command in the startup commands section in your STO Launcher: -NoAutoRotateLogs. This startup command will make it so that all DPS parses are stored in a single log file. The screenshots below show how do to this:

    cTkqwj0

    7Bi38Ap

    Useful Keybinds

In Star Trek Online you can bind many actions to various keys on your keyboard to make life easier, as discussed earlier in this guide in order to start a combat parse you must use the command /CombatLog 1 before going into combat and /Combatlog 0 to end the parse.

You can also bind those commands to any key you'd like. For example /bind F3 Combatlog 1 & /bind F4 Combatlog 0. Alternatively, you can bind a key to toggle combatlog on and off using the following command /bind F4 ++Combatlog$$Combatlog

That makes it so that in order to start a parse, you only have to have tap the key you bound "Combatlog 1" to.

Step by step guide on using SCM

    21573805708 34fc17e453 b
    1) By clicking "STO CombatLog" SCM will automatically find the path to your CombatLog in your STO game files if a combatlog exists.

    21140640093 96abf582e0 b
    2) To analyse your CombatLog click the "Analyse" button as highlighted above.

    21573804998 792f012aa9 b
    3) In the main window on the right hand side of the screen a bar graph should appear showing how much DPS each member of your team did. It will also display their "@Handle" next to how much DPS they did.

    21573672510 a4906801b5 b
    4) By clicking "DPS Chart" at the top of the big window where the graph is displayed. An image similar to above should appear allowing you to see a visual representation of how much your DPS spiked and dipped throughout the course of the last recorded combat.

    21771073451 d6d5c3e66f b
    5) Next the "DPS Chart" button is another button "DMG Chart". By clicking this button a screen similar to the one will appear this screen will allow you to see if the damage you are outputting is consistent in the form of a vertical line graph.

    21140639163 120d15e367 b
    6) On the left hand side of the window is a button "Player Combat Analysis Reports" this will open up a new window showing you a break down your damage allowing you to see how damage each weapon was doing and the damage pets were doing (if applicable).

    21140638953 7609264c2f b
    7) This window will display a breakdown of your damage that was recorded.

    21574794799 1b9f865073 b
    8) Back on the main SCM screen below the button "Player Combat Analysis Reports" is the button "The Official DPS League. Clicking this button will open up a new window which will allow you to view the DPS league and browse peoples accomplishments and find where you rank on the DPS league if you rank at all.

    21140638553 9d1f88d750 b
    9) Here you can find where you are ranked on the DPS league (if ranked) and see other peoples accomplishments.

Thank you for taking the time to read this short guide.

Hi Zoriah, if improving your build and your DPS is your current focus, I highly recommend attending Bridger's build discussion events. Bridger is very knowledgeable about builds, skills and abilities and his assistance goes a long way. Britsurfer often sits in on these meetings, and, as he is a high DPSer and the proverbial "tip of the spear", provides excellent insight and advice.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, are these allowed?

Just wanted to double check before I got one, since on certain games (for example, FFXIV) the parsers in use at the moment are actually against the game's ToS)

Parsers are fine, they don't do anything with the game itself.

The combatlog is generated by the game itself, all the parsers do is parse the log and spit out information to us in human-readable format.

The DPS league actually had a sticky on the official forums, before Vanilla.

On the plus side, I've often seen that number thrown around as the minimum to be "pulling one's weight" in an Advanced queue. So don't stress over any bigger numbers anyone else has got. In all likelihood, you'll get there just fine.

Oh really? As long as I don't get shouted at I don't mind Redface

I'm not even half way through my build anyway, and since I wanted to get consoles and other pieces finished first I am actually still using Mk XI weapons...

Anyone who's going to shout at you over this can go jam it in their Jeffries Tube.

One thing to note is that space weapons' damage scales up rather aggressively at Mk 13 & 14. If you've got the weapons you want, upgrading them might pay off handsomely.

I have the right type but not necessarily the right modifiers(Acc, CrtH and DMG) (also they are VR not UR/Epic). I didn't know if it was worth upgrading them or levelling my beam R&D and trying to make good ones myself? (I am beyond space poor, I am in space poverty. My crew can't afford food, so there's no way I can really afford the weapons)

above all being said, I am not crazy about mix/maxing but also, because of how much I struggle with MMO money, I don't want to waste upgrades

First of all, keep in mind that DPS will be different for each queue. ISA is the only standard used, so if you're parsing something else it won't be a meaningful comparison.

For ISA, I think 7k is the minimum for "pulling your own weight" since if the entire team does ~35k, then it'll go fine.

Ugh, I haven't parsed in a while and I'm not on the tables anymore. I'm just waiting for the trait slot unlocks before bothering to do so again. Tongue Out

A sensible position. Yeah, you want to wait for the specific weapon you want, then upgrade that. You can certainly take a crack at crafting your own. It can try your patience to get the exact mods you want, so be prepared to churn through a lot of false starts. A Mk 2 beam costs a trivial amount of material, and takes 5m to create. You can get 4 or 5 of them queued up at a time, then lather-rinse-repeat until you have as many as you need with theods you want.

(If you don't have the patience to try crafting that many items, Advanced Fleet Weapons of CrtD Dmg*3 are a reasonable acquisition.)

Either way, once you've got the weapons, you'll want to upgrade them. Superior upgrades are the tool for the job; applying an upgrade kit to equipment costs dilithium, and Superiors give the most bang for the buck on that front. Crafting Superior Beam upgrades requires you to be level 15 in Beams R&D, and use a VR material called Radiogenic Particle in their manufacture. There are a few queues that reward that; my personal favorite is Crystalline Advanced.

Another source for materials for Superior upgrades can be found in the Daily R&D mission available in the Development section of the Fleet Research Lab.

    I'm gonna stop here before I information-overload you. :-)

Feel free to ask any follow up questions you've got.

For a Tactical captain, Fleet [CrtD][Dam]x3 are literally the second best choice when you have everything else in a min/maxed optimal build. IIRC the best is [Dam]x3[Pen], at something like 100 times the cost.

I'm science, what about Tac captains makes it good for them and not necessarily others?
