NEH DAQ MAY' 'OH TLHINGAN TEH TLHINGAN
ONLY IN BATTLE IS A KLINGON TRULY KLINGON
Greetings Warriors,
It is with great pleasure that I announce the start of a periodic series of Klingon proverb discussions. Klingon proverbs are not only the bedrock of Klingon culture in the Star Trek universe, but many can be seen as words of wisdom to live our real lives by.
With each discussion, I would like to delve into the fundamental meaning of the proverb, the influence the proverb had on the positive and negative actions of Klingons in the shows/movies and then discuss if and how that proverb could be applied to our real lives.
Any personal examples of how an idea behind a proverb helped you or could have helped you are encouraged!

"Only a fool fights in a burning house"
I have always liked this particular proverb, which I take to mean "be aware of your surroundings, and know when to fight or strategically withdraw"
and a similar proverb I really like
noH QapmeH wo' Qaw'lu'chugh yay chavbe'lu', 'ej wo' choqmeH may' DoHlu'chugh lujbe'lu'
"Destroying an Empire to win a war is no victory. And ending a battle to save an Empire is no defeat."

There are a couple of quotes I've quite taken too. "DujeychughjaghnIvyItuHQo'." - There is nothing shameful in falling before a superior enemy.
To me this means that no matter how much you try you can be the best at everything. There is will always be something or someone you cannot best and there is no shame in accepting ones own limitations.
pujwI' HIvlu'chughquvbe'lu'. - There is no honor in attacking the weak.
I think this proverb is something we can all learn from. Just because we have superior technology or firepower doesn't give us the right to interfere or attack those less advanced or "weak". Sadly this is not the case in modern day western politics.
