Well, I'm in the middle again on this one. There were some high points and low points, at least for me. This episode took about three steps back in becoming what it has the potential to be. Back to SUPERBurnham to the rescue... which was disappointing. Even so, the story wasn't half-bad and I enjoyed some of the banter going on with the crew. OK. I'm stopping there before I give away something those who haven't seen it might not want to know.

Spock's speech to Burnham was awesome and voiced what everyone has been saying about her for a series and a half. Didn't stop them turning right round and making her an insufferable person again though.

Spock's speech to Burnham was awesome and voiced what everyone has been saying about her for a series and a half. Didn't stop them turning right round and making her an insufferable person again though.
To be honest, I thought they were well on their way to making Burnham the hero of this episode but truly she couldn't make the tough call nor could she execute the call once Airiam asked her to open the airlock and Pike backed up the plan. If anything this showed vulnerabilities. Her emotions got the best of her which actually made her more of the flawed character that was described before the show premiered but they never really showed until the past few episodes.
I know people are disappointed that this isn't more of an ensemble show but it was never sold that way. I do get the complaints though.
Anyway, my other thoughts:
- I am rather enjoying the relationship between Spock and Burnham. Spock really shut Burnham down and told her exactly what the fans have been thinking. I think what we are seeing is Kurtzman correcting the character and making her into more of the flawed and more relatable Starfleet officer that was described before the show premiered.
- While I liked the way they humanized Airiam and gave her a backstory, I wish they would have done this over a few episodes before she met her end.
- I'm liking Pike more and more every episode. I especially liked the way he accused Cornwell of keeping him away from the war because of the questionable tactics and I loved Cornwell's response. You can really tell that Pike is trying to prove himself after sitting out the war.
- Nahn is a great character
- The conversation between Spock and Stamets was enjoyable.
- I'm enjoying this version of Spock. I know people are going to take issue with his emotion but I will remind you that he showed emotion in The Cage and less, but still some in Where No Man Has Gone Before. I like the fact that at his younger age he is still dealing with conflicts between his Vulcan and Human side.
- I also know people will take some issue with this side story of the Logic Extremest. I'm hoping they tie it into the Vulcan Isolationist Movement in TNG. This could also be a group that broke off from the Syrrannites in Enterprise maybe believing that Syrran didn't take the group far enough into Logic. I think there are some things they can really do with this down the road.
I'm sure when I rewatch it I will have some other thoughts.

thisd season is fairly obvious to me I am not going to say wha t Iam very sure of wha tis going on but getting a little predicable again . I didnt care for this ep I think it might have t odo with one of the producers that I never cared for in I dont no maybe I am just getting old or something but to me this is going off or something I mean even spock was off to me ok he said a couple of things but that is about the only thing that kept me from turn off my tv or watching somethign else I keep hoping and waitiing for something that I consider interesting or good to happen but it doesn't seem to this ep I didnt care for.
I think that the onlyu reason I keep watching besides hopeing is that it ios the only syfi show on that is remotely ok right now and it has the Name star trek even though to me it really isnt .

Spock putting Burnham to her place was long overdue. I have to say, I'm not sure if I see the predictability here, since the three variables now are Section 31, Red Angel and AI Dominance. Story could go eitherway.
I mean, the episode title was Deadlus, only to leave what is Deadlus as a cliffhanger....

Ariam had in one episode more character development than Burnham in two years for one it was awesome and than they killed her of and that sucked.
Her cybernetic implants seem to be more advanced than the Borg from the 24th Century minus the storage issue and the lack of a personal shield and that she can't survive in space.
I can see Section 31 being shutdown after the key item went renegade and their top agents not giving up and keep working on their own and seeing what technology they have on their ships it seems plausible that they can hide themselves very well.
The Admirals being jerk Holograms pleases me, a lot.
Pike is the best character in the show and the show should be about him.

Looks like they have based the DSC version of Section 31 on the Books on 31. In the books Control is an AI Made by humans before the NX Launched as a threat assessment AI, it would monitor everything through all technology throughout the federation and any allies that used fed tech at any point, it evolved and became self aware, so it appears Discovery is moving along the same lines

I haven't seen it yet, but I've scrolled down fast.
Discovery starts to make its way into being something. I'm glad the community gave it a chance.
That bearded Spock though...
Looking forward to see the episode.

oh yeah definitely, it was in all federation tech from replicators to pads and it used fakery and tricks to inform different authorities on crimes or people of interest, eventually forming its own group of people because said authorities response time was too slow and then using them to perform clandestine activities (and we all know what that means)
Oh and uh... Spoilers for the Section 31 series of books!

It's hard to say that I liked, or disliked this episode. So I took the neutral ground in this vote.
I LOVED Spock telling Burnham how a lot of us have felt about her!
Space Skynet...ok. Like Novalance has alluded, those of us who read may have an idea where this season is going.
I liked getting some of Airiam's backstory, but I wish that it had been scattered throughout previous episodes. By dumping it all in this episode, it makes the emotional impact of her death less earned. Typical for Discovery's writing team though.
I did respect the choice to play the sound of the beach through the end credits. Nice touch, though again, it seemed unearned, given that we had only now just gotten to know Airiam.
Why not beam out Airiam, either from the airlock, or once she was out in space? Why no phasers to deal with the mines...or tractor beams? They seem to ignore available tech to service the poor plot. That is irritating.
The explanation Cornwell gave for leaving the Enterprise out of the war seemed stupid to me. I would think that you'd want to be using your best assets in a time of war, instead of saving them for posterity.
That's all I've got!
Cheers!

I liked the interaction between Spock and Burnham, but then of course the whole story line is BECAUSE of Burnham.. who would've guessed? Apart from that the episode had its moments. I wonder if the A.I that took over Airiam was an evolved Control from the future. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the person in the red angel suit is gonna turn out to be Burnham. It just feels like its winding up to that.
