For context I recently posted a screenshot I took in Star Trek Online on r/STO and I had a rather odd comment from another redditor and I was hoping somebody might be able to shed some light on this. On the screenshot (below in the spoiler tag) I put some text on there that states "We are the Borg". I then received a comment on the thread stating that its correctly stated as "We are Borg". Here is a screenshot of the following conversation:

The question I want to ask is First Contact not considered canon? I've looked into this and I can't seem to find a definitive answer, I've looked at several depictions of the Star Trek Timeline.

I think they're either just trolling or actually think its not canon since all star trek films are considered canon, I think.

Everything that has been aired, TV series or films, are canon.

Thanks for the input guys! I figured it was canon because as I said the ENT episode Regeneration confirms it happened in the prime timeline.

I've always considered it to be canon. I honestly don't think that person fully understands what "retcon" and "canon" are.

There is one other part of Trek that references First Contact, in Voyager's Year of Hell, Torres and Kim are trapped in a Jefferies Tube and they're playing a game to pass time, and one of the questions was to guess the name of the first human Warp Ship. Seven blatently says that the Borg were present during that time.

That spoiler you have here is the connection that guy clearly missed. And as Miles said; if it's a released TV series or Movie, it is canon.

Please don't start talking about DISCO here; that's a different story as it's still being released and isn't relevant to what we're talking about.

On the subject though of that guy correcting the other reddit user (realizing just now that's you) on whether it's "We are the Borg" or "We are Borg" I have found 2 quotes on Memory Alpha. Both are from VOY episodes (S3 - Scorpion & S6 - Collective) and prove both statements are canon.

Except The Animated Series, which is in a weird gray area of canon-only-when-it's-referenced. I always liked the dichotomy of Trek canon - it's very black or white between TV/movies and the novels/comics/etc., with TAS being the only gray area.

What I'm interested in is whether or not the TAS rules will apply to Lower Decks and the Nickelodeon series.

In 2007, CBS rolled TAS into it's library on StarTrek.com (http://web.archive.org/web/200706301...cle/42595.html) and stated that the TAS is Canon and to be considered TOS' fourth season. This was further confirmed in an interview with David Gerrold and D. C. Fontana that is part of the book "Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek - The Original Cast Adventures"

If the plural is the same word - then both "We are Borg" and "We are the Borg" would both be correct grammar, maybe?

I think that We are the Canadians is only correct if it's followed by, 'that you're looking for.' or something like that as it seems strange as a response to 'Who are you?'. Then again, I don't expect a species from bajillions of miles away to know and adhere to the rules of English grammar
