So, I've decided to reroll after being absent from the game for a looooooong time. How long? Well, back when I was last ingame the Iconian set was the best gear you could possibly have. That was the last time I played with anything resembling dedication. Since this has been a while, I decided to retire my Romulan main and create a new main, Fed this time.

Now I have the problem that I have a huge selection of ships to chose from and no idea where to start. But maybe you can help! Since the ship is leveling with you these days (awesome feature btw!) it makes sense to chose the ship early on and buy it directly.

Back in the days I mostly flew cruisers, my last ship on my Romulan was a tempral destroyer though, which game me the perfect balance between firepower and survivability. I prefer to use beam arrays, since I suck at flying (so no cannons for me) and I despise A2B builds, so I need ships with decent tactical seating. From what I saw I will probably have to go escorts, since not many destroyers are available for the Federation. Oh, and I'm a redshirt, in case that matters. I don't do space magic.

Soooo... any suggestions?

Here are a few ships to get you going:

Gargarin Miracle Work Battlecruiser
Hands down one of the best ships for DPS in the game and its available on the CSTORE, its miracle work spec gives it access to really awesome miracle worker boff abilities like Narrow Sensor Bands which gives a massive damage bonus the closer you are up to 6km (max)

Cardassian Intel Bundle
These ships are nice, they come with a standard cloak and have access to some of the best traits in the game such as Calm Before the Storm. Always worth a look if you like interesting cardie ships!

T6 Defiant

However I'd like to stay "classic" Fed and not use any other ships than classical Fed ships, otherwise I could have stayed on my Romulan. So no Cardies for me

I read about the Gagarin, it's intriguing to be sure, sadly I don't think she's very good looking. I prefer designs like the Odyssey over the flat narcelles of the newer designs. Or just do away with them and go full Defiant, of course.

The Defiant is a classic and always on my list (DS9 is my favorite show after all), last I remember she was a bit too squishy though. Maybe it's better with T6 though, but I need to check on that.

The T6 Presidio Cruiser is a good ship with plenty of scope for different builds, I've seen it as a torpedo boat, a minelayer and a beamboat too. Doesn't look too crazy either.

If you don't really care about DPS, some good ships (I like) Galaxy, Excelsior, Miranda or the Constellation class. Even the Ambassador class at T6 is really fun to play.

Now if you look at Bridger's builds, even some of the above mentioned ships can really dish out some punishment. He even has builds that sacrifice a bit of DPS, just so he can have them look more like the film versions. I also like using the same types of weapons that the film versions used, and then matching my crews uniforms.

The T6 Miranda (Reliant Class) is a pretty good "classic" Federation style ship. You can make it look like multiple canon ships seen on screen (Reliant, Saratoga (ST:IV), Saratoga (DS9), Bozeman, Centaur) and it also has the modern variant for the future look.

It's also just a fairly good little ship to fly. Fairly nimble, tough, decent boff layout with access to pilot abilities to add some fun options, nice balanced console layout too.

Can be run as your typical beam boat, or a dual beam version, a Beam Overload style ship, heck even a torp boat. It's very flexible.

I checked some stuff and the hint about Bridger's builds was especially helpful. His build for the New Orleans class should be adaptable to other escorts, some of which might fit me better (like T6 Hestia, Reliant or Akira). I just need to replace the A2B with a Drake and find other consoles to replace the one I can't get anymore.

If your piloting skills need work, I would stay clear of anything too small and nimble. Those really do require some piloting skills to be effective. Stay away from pure carriers as well.

If you were happy in your Tal'aura, why not get another one? I mean, if you have either the 900 Lobi or the 220 million EC.

Straight Zen ships? The Gagarin is very popular right now. Alone it's 3,000 Zen. It is also available as part of the 10,500 Zen "Discovery Operations Pack" which includes the Gagarin, the T6 Shran Light Pilot Escort and their KDF versions (M'Chala Pilot Escort and Qugh Battlecruiser), and a lot of other stuff. Look in the C-Store under Expansion Packs for the full details. Really, if you're getting the Gagarin, this is (IMHO) the way to get it.

Arbiter Battlecruisers are nice.
Eclipse Intel Cruisers are too.

Get a little freaky and look at the T6 Khopesh Tactical Dreadnought Warbird. It's a 5/3 with 5 TAC console slots, a battle cloak, and a hangar. That puts it a bit ahead of the T6 Oddy in my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

This is looking like the best option right now, actually. I don't like the look of the Klein-class as much as the Romulan version, but it's currently the only ship checking all my boxes. Unfortunately I don't have the moolah for that right now. Though I could get an Arbiter to work, too.

I really like the Sovereign, it's actually my favorite ship ever, but it's virtually impossible to set it up without Aux2Batt. Too many engineering and not enough tactical for that. I have most of the Romulan ships btw, as I played Romulan since release of LoR, but I want to stay away from them on my Fed

Actually for a long time I used the Temporal Dreadnought as my main ship, it was as perfect a ship as I could find (as you can see in my old signature). Wasn't the most Romulan-style ship, but it was awesome to fly. Maybe I should look back into that direction...

Speaking of the Sovereign, do you have access to Either the Intel assault cruiser or the Command assault cruiser? It comes with extra tac slots and a Lt.cmdr universal with an intel/command slot respectively. They can be setup to do reliable dps using A2B or you can run it as an agro tank thanks to its engineering seats.

True, but you could have a science officer with the intel spec in there, gives you access to Hazard emitters 2, Polarize Hull 1 and Override Subsystem Safeties 3 <- That would be my choice of BOFF powers but you can experiment with it however you please

Also there's the trait you can get from the T6 Xindi Primate ship (lobi) called Superweapon Ingenuity, which increases BO's duration by 5sec.

Usually for my FAW builds I would make the uni a tac though for a 2x TT, 2x FAW, 1x KLW, 2x AP:B (or AP:B/AP:O depending on Zemok) setup.

My A2B builds don’t stack up on abilities as most of the time I’m on global cooldown from boffs, doffs and passive traits and skills. So you could drop the extra tac abilities as I don’t feel you would need them in a setup with the sovvie.

I have a beam overload build for the Kelvin destroyer, you can see how I setup my boff abilities and see how you can make it work for you.
