Not the real logo, I'm using it for humor...
So... I saw there was a discussion back in March about this, but now it has gone "LIVE". Setting politics aside **please**; please tell me what everyone take is on this subject? Do you think that this could lead to a bold new future; or something else?
Article below in the link from the U.S. Air Force website:
https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/y...at-that-means/
President Trump officially signed the Space Force into law Friday, but for now, all that means is everyone at Air Force Space Command will now be assigned to Space Force. Over the next 18 months, officials said, the finer details of manning and training the new branch will be hammered out and set in motion.

I think its a bit pointless, America has a Military Branch for fighting in space and other things, and we can't even get out of our own solar system as of this point in time, and honestly seems like a big waste of time. Just my opinion.

The U.S. Space Command I believe from what I read is being converted into the 'Space Force' over the 18 months. A 4-star General will be running it and his title will be "Chief of Space Operations" is what I read. He will have a seat on the Joint Chiefs sometime after the dust settles on the new formation. Remember when the Army Air Corps split from the Army and became the Air Force? I am sure people thought the same thing then. Perhaps in time it might make sense, we'll never know because it will take the passage of time to tell.

It is too early for anything like this. We have first to increased the manned missions. Apart from the ISS our presence out there is minimal (e.g. the two Chinese space stations). Also we should find ways to shorten the time needed for mission within our solar system.

I think the biggest issue that people have with the whole thing is the STUPID name. It is straight out of Team America: World Police. That and the mission isn't clearly defined. It's moving departments around simply to move departments around.
Yes, there is duplication across the various services, but each service needs different information. What the Army needs from satellites and what the Navy needs are two completely different things.
It's... "Legacy Building" is what it is. The man wanted to leave a mark as Commander-in-Chief, so he did. There's no other reason to do it.
"And when I saw the breadth of my domain, I wept, for there were no more worlds left to conquer."

Space is a true unknown. The whole reason people starting dreaming of what's out there is not just being curious, but at that time it was as much of an escape to imagine what's it like to be away from all the ♥♥♥♥ and politics, in my opinion of course.
I don't think space is something anyone should have any jurisdiction over. Create programs to explore it together than do the typical primal thing of claiming individual clan/country lands and/or jurisdiction.

Honestly, who knows what kinds of classified technology the US has access to that makes the creation of the Space Force a viable thibg. Heck the Stargate could really exist! Who knows..

I think that the United States is just trying to not fall behind on the world stage. China and India both have aggressive plans for their space programs. It's unfortunate that humanity can't/ won't work together, without some kind of catastrophic event. That's human nature though. People are tribal by nature, easily demonstrated throughout history by the conflicts between the different nations, religions, cultures, ethnicities, and even sports teams around the world. Individually, many of us understand the benefits of humanity acting together, but because of human nature, there will always be a minority that seeks to exploit the differences between us to gain money and power for themselves.
Without going any deeper into the abyss than I already have, it is the optimism of 'Star Trek' for humanity's future that gives me hope, but in reality, I think that 'The Expanse' has a better grip on how humanity will advance into space in the future. Without some kind of awakening throughout humanity, the future is going to be made by different nations and corporations expanding into space for their own reasons. This isn't the best solution for exploring space, but it's the one we're most likely to get.

It is only a renamed Space Command, and while Trump wants it to be a new part of the armed forces he has not the authority to create a new division of the armed forces, right now it is only a move to make him shut up.

I'm curious if they will have their own "uniform" style once they are up and running. It will be interesting to see what they come up with if so. I would predict that over time the new division will only expand and grow into something that we could see as to what could become a larger organization as technology and interest grows. As I had said, only the passage of time will tell. I try to keep things optimistic also.

This is more than just a mistake. No country in the world, especially the US should be allowed to form a military branch to control space. The last thing humanity needs is our pointless squabble to extend into space.
We are far too immature to take on something this magnitude.

It's idiotic (both in name and in the idea behind it).
Space surrounds THE ENTIRE planet so every person and country on Earth should be responsible and involved in protecting, exploring, exploiting it for various reasons. No single country should ever have jurisdiction to control any part of it or dictate how it is used.
This "Space Force" is just a certain person in charge trying to make some sort of legacy for their name and acting like they own the place.
I think all it will potentially do is risk conflict between massing superpowers or be a total waste of time and money.

Before any "military acts" in space, we have to explore it. And we are behind in this. The unmanned missions and telescope observations are only the beginning. I believe we need to establish some presence on the Moon, Mars first. Then we look forward.
