Making a model railway

Nice!, My next project is going to be in N Scale but as I have come to realise its going to take a lot of time and a lot of money. luckily it doesn't need a lot of space hehe

Once this OO Gauge is done, I want to work on an N Gauge that has separate scenes. my idea's so far are the village I lived in as a kid, then a scene based on Trenton FL (near where my mother lives) and then a European scene based on Portugal (Where my sister and nieces live) I feel its fairly ambitious but hopefully due to N's size I may be able to do it

Fancy Nova! Looking really good, have you by chance been to the train shop in Cardiff? I’m not sure if its still there, but its by wood street bus stops, heading past the courts near starbucks inside the arcade there (not really descript I know hehe )

They sell some Arriva trains and some old style steam locomotives dating from Victorian models and carriages to more modern locomotives. I think they actually sell some cargo trains with EWS markings if you want to add a bit realism to your set. If the shop isn’t there anymore, theres the model shop near the table top game shop.

I know of Lord and Butler by the old pump house (stones throw from Ikea) been there quite often and I think there is Lendons of Cardiff (I have yet to go there) I saw an EWS Class 37 diesel at the exhibition but I only had enough cash for the sprinter. otherwise i'd of grabbed it

Since retiring my parents have got into model railways in a big way. Most weekends they're at an exhibition somewhere in the country either exhibiting a layout of theirs or helping one of their club members. They've started work on a garden railway now too. Once I've got my study re-decorated I'm planning to follow in their example I think. I've already got a small selection of kit built rolling stock (all 7mm narrow gauge so there's not many ready-to-run options) that I've half built so I'll need a track to run it on when it's done

Your stuff is looking really good Nova. How'd you get on with the plastercloth? I see that you had a tub of water so I guess you were dunking which I've heard is pretty messy (and the paper towels laid on the track implies that was your experience too). I've seen suggestions of using a spray bottle to wet the cloth only once you've laid it in place but not sure how well that'd actually work.

And to those that say they'd love to have a model railway but don't have the space I direct you to carendt.com for some inspiration. You'd be surprised what you can do with just a few inches

I remember the name now Nova! Its Antics Models and Hobbies. Its in Wyndam Arcade on St Marys street in Cardiff.

But for a true representation of British "working" railways they are going way too fast, and there's two running at once.
I think at least one should have broken down or be on strike...possibly stopped in the middle of a field for 4 hours as my experience has always been!

I have yet to figure out what an appropriate scale speed is. also I'm quite impressed with my father in laws Pannier tank its about 35 years old and hasn't run for about 30 of those years. its doing well!

Don't forget that you also need a ticket costing at least £3,500, the wrong type of leaves on the tracks and also the replacement bus service.

There seems to have been a few people interested in this, so I'm going to post this here.

For UK People Interested: On February 1st and 2nd, Stafford Model Railway Circle is going to be hosting their annual exhibition.
I'm shamelessly self-promoting because I was a member of the club for a while and will be helping out with this exhibition.
It's something like the 2nd largest in the country after Warley at the Birmingham NEC in terms of space and the number of layouts on display.
