Thank the stars all the T1 to T4 ships I already want, I got with Zen ages ago, account wide, and less hassle to get hold of. I ain't saving up dilithium to unlock a low level ship for one character. Boring change, would rather see a return of the foundry.

You and I may have a ton of ships, but a lot of people who aren't us don't. Gotta think about those guys after all. Besides they've got to create some dilithium sinks, thanks to how much people have. Any type of sink, no matter how minor is a good thing for the dil economy. Though I would prefer it be something new that helps continually lower the dil economy rather than just a small fix here or a nice patch there.

I'll agree about the foundry, but that's a dead horse now. It ain't coming back. Unless they surprise announce us. Other than that wishful thinking, sadly.

The problem is, is that someone who doesn't play much could find it quite difficult to get much dilithium easy. I could, I can just transfer it over to a character, but if I was new, and played as sporadic as I currently do, I'd find it quite difficult. Right now, I have loads of marks, and VIP mining claims, I could make wicked sick bank, but a fresh account couldn't do that.

T1 - 15k - 2 days cap (+1k extra)
T2 - 37.5k - 5 days cap (+2.5k extra)
T3 - 75k - 10 days cap (+5k extra)
T4 - 150k - 19 days cap (+2k extra)

The left over from refining at cap gives 10.5k, so a bit more grinding if you wanted another T1 ship, the total Dilithium required is also 277.5k.

Let's look at some ships, using the conversion of 1 Zen to 403 Dilithium, as that's the most plentiful as I am on STO at the moment.

T1 - NX Class - 500 Zen - 15k Dil is 38 Zen - Not bad, I could get that on a total of 13 characters, one by one at that price.
T2 - Rhode Island - 750 Zen - 37.5k Dil is 94 - Good, but I could only get that on 7 characters, almost 8, one by one before reaching the original Zen cost.
T3 - SuQob - 1,000 Zen - 75k Dil is 187 Zen - Still good, we are at 5 characters now though.
T4 - Sao Paulo - 1,500 Zen - 150k Dil is 373 - Cheaper than an old T1, but we only get 4 uses before it's costing more.

So yes, you can get a better deal, if you are careful about it and plan ahead if you are using Zen to buy these, of course, if you are lifetime and get 500 a month anyway, you are set. And you can also grind the Dilithium required, at low level, kind of hard, and you may outlevel most of these anyway, so it just becomes something to get the unique item off of.

Pros and cons, short term, it can be cheap, long term, less so, then there's the potential market effect as well, less dilithium floating around, so the price may go up in relation to Zen.

As for beating a dead horse on the foundry, I love beating dead horses, no one can take that from me.

1-4 ships are good for saving mission skips, you can send these low powered ships on unwanted missions to clear them off your board.

This is a really really good change, that makes the Phaser Quad cannons available to a wider range of people, get those consoles for those that don’t have them!

And in the last 2 hours, they've announced it's broken. The currency will not switch over to dilithium but the ships you don't own will disappear from the store until they have a "fix" for it.

I think the most advantageous for me would've been the Sao Paulo. I already purchased it though.

However if someone did NOT purchase the ship, they pick it up with Dilithium, and pick the T5 Defiant when they hit level 61.

That would just leave Purchasing the T6 Defiant to get the Stealth Fighter Console set. That would be quite a bargin.
