Enjoyed the episode, as stated as soon as the golem was stated you could have guessed the outcome. However was very touched by the Picard/Data scene.

Really enjoyed the episode. I was kinda hoping for a space battle, since I'm at heart a giant child, but really thought it was great to see a far better ending than Nemesis. I'll admit the series felt a little Battlestar-y for me, so I was really happy to see 'damaged' Picard stand up straight and be the most Picard like he had been all series.
Looking forward to next season!

After watching the entire season I can make an opinion as a whole and that is; I did not like it. But I didn't hate it. I'm just... meh.
To be clear, some episodes were okay, some were actually fun, but as a whole it was bland and boring with what felt like a TNG two part episode artificially stretched to ten episodes here. Action sequences had no depth. The CGI was lackluster at best. There was almost zero character arc progression, with some characters being almost entirely forgotten about. The entire thing was as shallow as a puddle. A very wide and impressive puddle, I'll grant you that, but still shallow no matter how wide it is.
I know people found the Picard/Data scenes touching, but I personally found them cringe-worthy. I have to completely agree with RLM here in feeling that the writers only watched the TNG movies and not the series. In the TNG movies they forced Picard and Data to have a relationship and deep friendship that they did not have in the TV show, in the show Picard admired and respected Data but that's as far as that friendship went. What happened in Picard felt trite and forced for memberberries. Member Picard? Member Data? Ooo I member!
I genuinely laughed when the beacon was turned off and the Reaper-a-likes were all like "oh, they turned it off, guess they don't want our help!" and promptly buggered off. Like the super advanced synth race doesn't have the tech to keep the doorway open from the other side. Or they didn't assume the synths calling for help weren't under attack. Or that they didn't have the capability to triangulate where the signal came from in real space and just go there using standard FTL.
Let's not even discuss the fact that Soong Jr has discovered actual immortality for everyone in the galaxy, but he only had one body and.. can't make another? What? Why? How? I.. oh we're just dropping that point.. okay.
Seven of Nine and druggie/alcoholic/deadbeat mom holding hands suggestively at the end of the finale made me groan, as the writers just put that in there to earn woke points with no actual reasoning or development behind it.
In closing, I know lots of people liked the show and I'm okay with that! People like what people like.
But much like Discovery.. I think modern Trek is just not for me. But I've never liked anything Alex "Plot Point Black Hole" Kurtzman has ever made.

For me personally, I found the entire show to be watchable only. As a Star Trek fan I was always going to watch it anyway but I can't bring myself to admit that it lived up to the hype.
Most of us loved the TNG shows and I was really looking forward to seeing some cameo's but it was highly disappointing. Riker being off grid with his family was what I had expected but then to waltz in to the final episode with the "toughest and most advanced" starship just seemed out of place. The Picard/Data relationship should have been done to match the TV shows which someone already mentioned. The other characters were very forgettable aside from Seven, she had some decent moments which allowed us to see her character growth but why start it off with the death of Icheb.
It feels very similar to my thoughts on Discovery, too much action and short wow moments and not enough character growth and plots. They could have had a lot less minor stories happening at once and allowed the main story to move along gradually culminating in the final episode.
For me, I feel that Picard's story really didn't need to continue. He knew where B4 was, he knew Data was essentially gone and his former crew had all moved on with their lives. I still can't understand the logic in bringing him back from his death in the last episode, he died doing what he loved and was very aware of his condition. What was the need to prolong his story arc!? Where does he go now? What could season 2 possibly give us fans?
I'm in doubt as to knowing if and why a 2nd season is necessary. But I am a fan of the franchise so obviously I will watch it.

Another watch & i'll have better thoughts, but initial thoughts:
- Riker to the rescue? No matter what....the pizza man always delivers! AND MOVING ON....
- Data's time has finally came to a close & in such a fitting way.
- Picard is dead, long live(?) Picard. Did they pull this with Prof. X in the Xmen series?
- Seven's broken look.....suits her PERFECTLY. And is a little hot, tbh. ....what?

This one was also full of tragedy.
I mean nobody is happy, what kind of Star Trek is this?
It wants so badly to make the future so horrible that it even killed Riker and Troi's son. I mean, what? why?
This show killed off Six people that it didn't earn the right to do.
Icheb, Maddox, Hugh, Riker's & Troi's son who we never even saw, Picard, Data.
Its so frustrating that not only did they have to work at making the Federation's future terrible, that they had to work harder to make it more terrible for the characters. Its not Star Trek, I dislike that I can't enjoy it. I'll give it another watch in a one after the other and see if it becomes more palatable.

After having taken the time to sit down and watch the finale a few times over the ending actually brought me to tears, Picard gave his life in the finest tradition as a Starfleet Officer saving the galaxy one last time and it was well written and amazingly acted. I’m glad the writers gave us a good ending for season 1 although I think those extra dimensional artificial lifeforms aren’t gone yet.
We got a good ending for Data and got to say goodbye properly, the interaction between him and Picard was exactly what we the audience needed and the character. Closure. Even though Picard is now technically an android, they did it really well. No enhanced augmentations for strength etc. Neither is he immortal which is perfect.
Can’t wait for season 2.

I am similair I cant fully enjoy it but I cannot fully not enjoy it it is watchable and the only resewn is because there is no other shows sch fi space shows out there right now its kind of like when at home turning on the radio while doing things it is more bnack ground noise know where near other shows that Iactiully sit down and watch it through out the whole show this one is more back ground voices and once in a while I wouild hear something that would make me look at thje screen for the few seconds then Meh continue doing what I was doing. over the week end I re watched\ listened to the whole serires to see if therewas anythign that was different from the first watch that Imight have missed and I ended up getting bored and more listened to it then watched it to ne honest for me it is pretty rare for me to not sit and watch a show but this one was barely ok I actually sit down and watch full eps of discovery ( and well I barely do sit ) because it just slightly interesting enough to keep me sitting

The question of transferring Picard's consciousness hasn't been directly answered. Yes we know his brain was scanned and memory transfer took place however the definition of Consciousness is "sentience or awareness of internal or external existence".
Jean-Luc Picard's memories, experiences, and self awareness have been transferred to another body. Although it was not his original body he is aware of who he is and even what he is. Thus in my opinion Admiral Jean-Luc Picard is still alive albeit in a body that doesn't have physical limitations of a 94 year old human body with a brain defect.
This isn't entirely new as you may remember Juliana Soong was transferred into an Android Body after she passed. The only difference being she was not aware of her memories and or consciousness being transferred.
As to the question of immortality. I have the distinct feeling that Dr. Soong had the intention of building only one Golem. Although there may have been an agreement that we aren't aware of that prevents him from building another one. I hope that those questions will be answered in season two.

Okay so... here's my late few cents.
First off, I'd like to say that I liked the season overall. It was forcibly slowed down, but I guess reason was script rewrites and Stewart input to some little at least, degree.
Since this is just Season One, I'm not going to say I'm impressed, but to me it's probably the best season 1 of all post TOS Star Trek. And here's why this bold claim has grounds:
- it is not what we've been waiting for; so it has a lot of potential
- the script rewrites I think made more good than bad and prepared some (dirty) ground for season 2
- Picard was old, so making him an android in the end makes a lot of sense and potential for him becoming the new Data-like character, drawing from both human and 'robotic' aspects
- the ship crew is not really likeable, except maybe the captain to some extent, but again - his many personae only prove the point of (dirty) clean slate idea that had to be pushed through in order to fix the script
- all the reminiscence felt very good, esp. planet Riker episode, where we got to know how things went (too much drama on their offspring though)
- the main theme with androids is quite worn down by all the sci-fi, but it still has, in my regard, lots of trek potential
- Picard is growing; and no longer growing old
bad parts:
- still not real trek, as in morality, psychology versus action ratio is way off (but hey, welcome to twenties)
- the Borg, as usual, are just background and not a real race, threat, or even potential for more
- Romulans are always welcome in my heart, and here they at least seem decent, but that's only that
- it could be that most my positive comments are based on the premise that will never transpire; the clean slate will not be exhausted and the script will still follow the new style trek I do not like
feelings:
watchable, 50% episodes enjoyable, ending to me is 8/10 considering all the issues in earlier episodes
characters are numb, but it's season one
It's been a while since it aired so I could be missing a lot. But in general the feeling I got at the end was: fruitful ending.
Compared to Discovery I liked it a lot more, but could be biased here as I hate Discovery quite a lot.

I mentioned this in the thread about Strange New Worlds, but what it comes down to for me is that there were some good episodes, some very bad episodes (eyepatch Picard?), but overall the story felt fairly Star Trek to me. I particularly loved the nostalgia bits.
Reading the comments from Solace and Petrarch about ships made me think about how Star Trek ships compare to real life. Honestly, what it comes down to for me is that in real life we don't have 30-40 different classes of ship in a fleet (although we also don't have fleets that large). There are generally a handful of classes, with a couple types of each class. For example, an aircraft carrier, a couple subs, destroyers, frigates, and possibly joint support ships.
Similarly, although I loved seeing all the ships in a battle "back in the day", if we assume that Starfleet is rebuilding after the dominion war, in which a large number of their legacy ships were probably destroyed or severely damaged, it doesn't make sense to me that they would rebuild the "old" classes of ship, or build a wide variety of ships. They would select a couple of different designs that meet their requirements (e.g. an area defence ship, one with excellent sensors, maybe a couple bomber types, science ship, etc.) and then freeze their designs and benefit from experience building the same ship to build them fast. Once they've built the fleet back up to a level where they can meet their strategic requirements, they can then slow their pace and benefit from experimentation and new technologies. Every new design that is introduced during the "rebuilding" period is a risk, since new designs can introduce new flaws or issues that take up critical building/engineering time to remedy. While the Federation is vast, they still have resource restraints on their building capacity (e.g. human/android/hologram work capacity, etc.).

So I bing watched the whole show and honestly it had its up and downs however this episode kinda killed it for me. We got the closure for Data which was great, to be honest. I'm really glad that they went that route.
What killed me was when they brought Picard back after he died. I had accepted at that point that he was dead and was actually satisfied with that conclusion as I felt they had ended the story properly. However, that little twist at the end really just killed it for me.
That's my two cents for what it's worth.
