It's a shame that since they shot DS9 and Voyager's VFX on SD videotape as a cost-saving measure, all the compositing for VFX can't be upscaled like it was in TNG, meaning they would have to redo every single one of the VFX shots over again, from start to finish, making an HD version cost-prohibitive.

Even with TNG which had original 35mm film masters and was simply edited on videotape, it was still a very expensive and time consuming process for them to reach that milestone - I heard it cost something like $12,000,000 to carry out the remaster work and as the blu-rays didn't sell the way it was hoped, any plans after that got abandoned.

DS9/Voy has a further complication as it used far more CGI over traditional model work compared to TNG. To remaster that, you'd likely have to go back and completely rebuild the models from scratch at the higher resolution. Still, those fan videos have done a really good job in those couple of scenes.

According to one of the guys working on the show, most of the CGI files still exist, and EagleSG demonstrates that quite often just look at my signature.

If CBS were to do it. I would have one request. That they do it internally. The TNG remasters that were farmed out did not turn out as well as the internal ones.
