This thread is for the pre and post discussion of the Season 3 episode "That Hope Is You" - this will be a spoiler filled discussion so if you've found your way past the warnings in the activity stream and the spoiler tag on the thread, this is your last chance to turn back, or at least it will be at the end of this first post. You have been warned!

Season 3 takes place 930 years after Season 2, now placing events in the year 3188 and into uncharted territory free from the canon established in the other Trek series. Alongside the return of the existing cast and the new logo you can see above, new cast members for the show include David Ajala, as Cleveland "Book" Booker who is confirmed as a series regular, Blu del Barrio as Adira, Ian Alexander as Gray and Adil Hussain as Aditya Sahil.

Barrio, who is making their screen debut and Alexander, a relative newcomer to the industry, are notable for the fact that, with themselves being non-binary & transgender respectively, their characters will also be portrayed as such, marking the first non-binary and transgender characters to appear in Star Trek.

"That Hope Is You" is the season premiere and there will be 13 episodes this season.

A little addition - the new title sequence has been shown off by CBS and it's kinda cool. It shows the older style hand phaser transitioning into a new design and it also has the Starfleet delta morphing into the new badge giving probably the clearest look at it to date.

This is a "clean" version of the titles as it doesn't contain any cast or crew names. The theme appears unchanged and the new logo appears at the end.

The article also mentions that Rachael Ancheril as Commander Nhan, the Barzan Enterprise engineer that came along for the ride, has been promoted to regular cast status also.

I liked it, It feels new I feel it introduced a lot of small things like whats the burn and what caused dilithium to become so scarce this undoubtedly will unfold as the season goes on. I think there is more to Booker and Grudge is she just a cat then. I liked that we saw a link to Enterprise with the temporal cold war referece given that officially we are past any timeline in trek lore it will be good to see what they do with it now its not tied to anything setting its refernce to stuff in stone.

Kinda hoping Grudge and Book Are like Gary Seven and Isis from assignment earth, where Gary and Isis tried to ensure earth's survival, Book and Grudge try to ensure the survival of endangered species.

Glad they mentioned Quantum Slipstream and Bajoran Sails, seems like both are used but to a limited Degree.

why is that guys name on pretty much every show Booker well actually in this series I think he is called Book the acting was ok but again I thought the make up wasn't to good the Andorrans make up and who is that Green person what planet was he or she from to me looked allot like the face of the incredible hulk it was so distracting that I was almost losing the actual content of the story line.
I was surprised she wasn't more injured after colliding with Books ship then sent hurling to the plants ground . she did a great job with having a clear enough head t o say all of those commands in real life it it was me I probably would have messed up most of those commands and ended up dead on the planet or burned while going through the atmosphere I also like the flag at the end I have a sneaking suspicion that this whole series 3 is going to be back and forth each ep until the last ep or two when the discovery is found.
I also thought that the idea of the crystal; blowing up ( the big burn) was a great idea of how something could stop a whole civilization from space travel who ever came up with that idea just brilliant in my eyes . but the makeup I think was terrible looked like if a wind would blow I would see blue flacks coming of the faces of the Andorrans hehe

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of the Andorian look they came up with. They mentioned Orions so I assumed the green guy was an Orion. Apparently Orion males traded pro wrestler size for the ability to become fully clothed and manicured over the intervening several hundred years. What is it with Disco and feeling the need to reinvent every alien somehow?

That aside, it was nice to see the writers finally disabled the "god mode" cheat on Burnham and humbled her a bit, aside from that rattling off lifesaving voice commands rapid fire in the suit she just flew for the very first time. Hopefully Disco is finally starting to find its footing by this season and find a more stable balance than past seasons. Trek shows always seem to struggle for the first season or two before finding their groove, so hopefully it is Disco's turn to follow that tradition.
