Halo Infinite

The sixth game in the main series is now confirmed for release on December 8th on both Xbox and PC.

For a quick plot overview, this entry in the series once again sees the return of the Master Chief, with the game taking place at the badly damaged Installation 07 (also known as Zeta Halo) where the UNSC forces have suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of The Banished, a faction lead by the Brutes that have broken away from the Covenant. Fighting back against the Banished, the Chief encounters a UNSC AI known simply as "The Weapon" (also voiced by Jen Taylor) who was tasked with retrieving Cortana for deletion. Cortana has been deleted, but no-one knows why or by whom, opening up a mystery that the 2 team up together to solve.

Infinite sees some changes to the formula this time around, as rather than a straight forward FPS, it has a more open world feel (though it's not true open world like Skyrim) and introduces some new toys into the mix, the grabble shot being the one seen most often in the trailers. Some RPG elements are introduced as well with the upgrade system and the ability to hold back from the story missions, if you so choose, in order to build up equipment and resources to make tackling them easier and gain access to more powerful vehicles. There's also going to be a paid and free version of a Battle Pass system and it appears they won't expire with the seasons so they can chipped away at as you please.

The biggest change however and the main reason I'm mentioning it here, is that the multiplayer portion of the game will be free to play and doesn't require you to own the campaign to access. Might be fun to get a few folks together to smash in heads with gravity hammers or go for the knees with a sniper rifle!

Oh I've been looking forward to this all year, just a little sad it's coming out during my summer, so hoping it isn't a hot one hehe.

I can't wait to play the campaign! It looks like a great return to form as well as being something completely different to what we've experienced in the past.

Yeah it does look like it'll be quite interesting. I hope they do have a good explanation as to why everything has gone back to human Vs banished with no promethean.

With the banished, I'm low-key hoping for a mention of the spirit of fire

I have an Arm patch for the Spirit of Fire (or was it for the UNSC Infinity, I forget) in my drawers somewhere, I should dig that up

I think I got one at some point for getting the collectors edition of Halo Wars when it came out, then I ended up selling it when I needed some cash

Rumor has it that we may get Halo Infinite's MP on Monday. guess we'll see heh

I'd be surprised if we did though anything's possible. Monday is the 20th anniversary of the original Halo release, though given Battlefield 2042 is now out, they may well wait for the whole game to go live in December rather than go head to head with it in the meantime, though it does the advantage of being free.

I bought the campaign this morning so I'm ready to finish the fight! Not looked forward to a title like this for a while now. I never played Guardians, but I've got the impression much of what happened there has been resolved in the background so I don't think I've missed a lot.

Not quite, Halo Infinite directly follows the events of Guardians and the events of Halo Wars 2 (since we’re fighting The Banished). It might be worth reading a summary of the Halo 5 campaign so you can understand whats happening and why.

Also wholly recommend Halo Wars 2. I own the original definitive edition on steam and I adore both games
