Hey everyone. I noticed that 2024 marks the 5 year aniversary of what I think is quite an important part of UFP history. Back in 2018 and 2019 the UFP had a podcast run by Three of Seven which was called the Midas Array Podcast and March 9th 2024 marks the five year aniverssary of the final episode of the podcast. So I thought I would take this upcoming 5 year aniversary to have a discussion about what sort of podcasts you all like to listen to and how many of you listen to them.

I have a few I listen to the first one is a gaming podcast called the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast (NEP). Yes, outside of STO I'm mainly a Nintendo person. The NEP covers news and upcoming events in the Nintendo gaming sphere as well as discussion points on past present and future. The hosts make it really fun and the news is always concise which helps when I'm shorter on time and just need a quick update.

Another one is a Podcast called That's What I'm Tolkein about which follows someone who is brand new to the world of Middle Earth as they go through the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit books chapter by chapter and now they've moved onto the surroudning book (also doing a Star Wars one now if that's more your jam, Skywalk before You Run). As a major Tolkein nerd I loved hearing all the theories and ocasioanlly reading along (but not always as the recap of each chapter is pretty good).

And of course I have to get my Tabletop RPG fix somehow and listen and sometimes watch a variety of D&D and other TTRPG's in podcast form. (Who could have guessed the person running the Star Trek Adventures games would like TTRPG's lol). There are some crazy moments there and who dosen't love crazy moments from a Nat 20 or 1.

Now I listen to these on both Youtube, and my phone's built in podcast app but I am looking at some Spotify ones going forward for my Podcast expansion over 2024 so feel free to tell me what your listening to right now.


The big question I have for the polls you all love this time is: If the UFP were to relaunch the Midas Array Podcast in a new format and more tailored to current UFP tastes and wants would you be interested in listening and if so where? And feel free to tell us more about what you want or why not in the thread below such as topics, length, release schedule and maybe some host speculation. We look forward to hearing your responses.

I've admittedly been pretty bad about listening to podcasts lately, but for Star Trek topics I've been mostly listening to the TrekCulture podcast, with occasionally catching the episodes of The Shuttlepod Show, The Delta Flyers, or The 7th Rule podcast in the rare occasions I have some extra spare time.

For more general listening, I listen to Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend when I'm in the mood for random humor and StarTalk Radio when I want something blending humor and physical sciences.

Finally, since I research the workplace and HR stuff professionally, I listen to things like "WorkLife with Adam Grant". Maybe not the most exciting topic for the average person, but can be interesting if you are into TED Talks type stuff or are interested in the science behind how to make work not suck (or at least suck a little less).

Always interested in new topics though, so interested to check out some of the other podcasts that get tossed around in this thread.

I’ll chime in here as well, I listen to podcasts occasionally on Youtube depending on what I’m doing at the time, I’m quite fond of Startalk and some Trekyards episodes.

Spotify listener here, my current go to is The Last Podcast on The Left. I did a search for a Trek podcast the other day to listen to in the shower but was surprised at the lack of content that wasn't just episode reviews. I'd be totally open to something new!

I probably listen to far too many podcasts, to be entirely honest. Always via Spotify. Mostly history-oriented ones (I'm currently working my way through Robin Pierson's History of Byzantium podcast, a spiritual successor to Mike Duncan's excellent History of Rome), though I also occasionally listen to TTRPG stuff like Critical Role or more traditional storytelling - in that genre, Old Gods of Appalachia is a favourite. However, as a self-described 'eldritch horror anthology podcast', it's not for everyone.

I listen to podcasts a lot while in the car. Typically I'd fire up the search and go for whatever the algorithm will present me with. I've unsubbed Spotify a long time ago in favour of Tidal, but I've unsubbed that too because all I really need in terms of music is my collection of CDs/LPs (digitised in a lossless format). Iirc you can listen to Podcasts on Spotify without an active sub, but I don't need the app just for that (except it's an exclusive podcast...).
