I only have one social media account, and it is with X/ Twitter. I have had that account since 2011. I use it to follow specific accounts that I either have interest in (of which UFPlanets and Star Trek Online are 2), or accounts that I want to know what the people behind those accounts are up to. I haven't experienced any toxicity on X/ Twitter, mainly because I avoid those types of accounts, and I don't browse outside of my areas of interest. I know that toxicity exists on X/ Twitter, as it does on all social media. I have avoided all other social media, and will continue to do so by avoiding Bluesky.
I don't believe in exiting from places that you have disagreements with, especially one of the largest, and most visible platforms around. By removing ourselves from X/ Twitter, we will no longer exist as a positive beacon on that platform, leaving one less positive there to influence, and be found by people. I have no problem with UFPlanets existing on Bluesky, but I believe that it is a mistake to remove us from X/ Twitter, which is currently a much larger platform for us to make our presence known on.
My proposal is for us to continue with the Bluesky migration, but to keep X/ Twitter as well. I suggest that we mirror posts to both sites. That way we maintain a presence on both sites, increasing our influence and reach. If we decide not to keep X/ Twitter, I will be sad to see UFPlanets go, but I will not be following over to Bluesky. I do not want to sign up for any more social media accounts. X/ Twitter is already one too many for me!
You make valid points but even so, for me at least the primary decision to ditch the platform is a matter of safety. While moving to bsky doesn’t solve the problem completely, it helps. The most recent decision made around blocking is unacceptable to say the least, if I choose or anybody else chooses to block somebody it should completely prevent any kind of interaction!
People still being able to view what you tweet after being blocked is like saying, its okay to be stalked just pretend they don’t exist and they can’t hurt you. Also I refuse to use a platform that is ran by an individual who stands for the eradication of minority groups that I and many others here belong to, like LGBTQI+ among other things, in short they stick it where the sun doesn’t shine!
The decision to abandon ship is entirely the correct one from both a moral and safety viewpoint for users and community values in my opinion.
